Minimalist, so you guys get to do all the work. :P

Sam Linnfer is outside in the sunshine, sitting on a rock by the lake and feeding the giant squid.

He's watching Molly Hayes with some amusement as she struggles with a large pink kite further along the lakeshore. Just as she's about to give up a magically-created gust of wind catches the toy ( Read more... )

Professor McGonagall isn't the only teacher getting a little tired marking essays. Mia is getting thoroughly worn out by the many papers essentially copying a poet from one of the books.

She gets up to stretch for a moment when the other teacher catches her eye. Hasn't she seen her before? Commanding a bunch of desks?

Mia gathers up her papers with the intention of finding Croix and asking him to put them away, but looking for the owl instead of calling for him puts her directly in Minerva's line of sight.

So when she is completely aware that she's noticed, she asks, "You too?"

Not yet she hasn't -- at least, not yet for this Minerva. That won't come for a year or two.

She raises well-marked eyebrows at the other woman. "Essays? Unfortunately so, yes."

"Teaching's a rough business," she says with an empathetic smile. "I sometimes wonder about my qualifications for it, but I imagine I would have been kicked out long ago if I wasn't suitable."

"Unless the students are actively rioting in every class and are mostly succeeding in passing their exams, I believe you're generally unlikely to be sacked," Minerva says, putting her quill aside for the moment.

"In my experience, at least."

The professor might recognize this figure, possibly not. Or wish she didn't, even though this Draco Malfoy was a few years older, now in his early to mid twenties. Also his hair was longer and his forehead was higher than it used to be in his school days.

Still her presence drew a mixed reaction from him.

She doesn't notice him immediately, too engrossed in sorting out Ronald Weasley's atrocious spelling and precarious grasp on English grammar.

When she does, however, she does an admirable job of concealing any surprise.

Dryly, "You always did do an atrocious job of concealing your likeness to a goldfish, Mr Malfoy."

Well, he scowled at that, and looked down at her.

"I was debating on simply saying hello, but perhaps I shouldn't have bothered. I'm not one of your students so save your precious wit."

"So I see," Minerva says, with more than a hint of tartness to her voice. "You'll forgive me for not lamenting that fact too loudly, since I am still marking your essays, nonetheless."

There is a white tiger cub about the size of a small dog running through the bar, and she has a black stage wand clamped between her teeth. Hot on the cub's heels is a woman wearing a top hat and fishnet stockings “Cadence get back here.” Zatanna tries to grab Cadence, but the cub swerves, slips under a table and takes off towards the booth that the professor is marking papers in.

Cadence smells another cat, and wants to play. Zatanna just wants a break, and her wand.

Cadence comes to a halt under the booth rather confused, she smells cat, but there is only a human. Blue eyes peeks out from under the table at the woman, wand still clamped firmly between her teeth.

Zatanna is still halfway across the room, but making rapid progress in catching up to Cadence.

...Well, that's new.

"A tiger cub, is it?" Minerva asks, peering down at the creature with a certain amount of tolerant curiosity. "Well, I assume you're not entirely wild from the way you're not currently savaging my ankles. I suspect that's not your wand, either."

She produces her own from her sleeve. "Accio wand," she says firmly, and the stage wand leaps from the cat's mouth into her hand.

Zatanna finally manages to make her way over to the booth, slightly out of breath and rather grateful someone managed to grab her wand. She gives Cadence a scolding look, before turning to the professor and giving her a tired grin.

"Thank you so much. Cadence has been playing keep away with my wand for the last hour." Zatanna looks a bit frazzled.

Cadence starts to sniff at Minerva's ankles, and looks up at the seat of the bench. She is debating if she can get away with jumping up for a better look, and possibly getting scritches.

She offers the younger woman her wand politely.

"No trouble at all."

The cub gets a forbidding look - there's a pile of scrolls still on that seat which Minerva would prefer not to have to go chasing for - but the sternness is tempered when she reaches down one hand to offer petting. Unsurprisingly, she's always had a certain fondness for cats.

It's the muttering woman who gets a curious look from Ellen. Possibly she might spot a paper with some discarded preliminary suit design on it? Because those are always interesting to look at.

Edna is entirely absorbed by her work - genius takes concentration, dahling! - and thus doesn't notice when one of her prototypes floats away from the table. It shows an elegant design for a suit with a wave-based design, apparently suitable for use underwater.

Naturally, there are no capes involved.

Of course. Even if Edna were the type to work with capes, which she's not, who would be so daft as to wear a cape underwater? That's just asking for trouble.

"Oh!" exclaims Ellen, grabbing it up before it drifts off. "It looks like something the Manta would wear!"

It has yet to stop certain idiots, unfortunately.

Edna glances up at the young woman. "The Manta, dahling?"

At the next table over from Edna Mode, a young woman dressed in well-worn, practical clothing is bent over a disassembled... something. Whatever it is, it has a lot of circuitry.

"C'mon, work, you stupid piece of--"

At some stage, the nearby woman gets a curious look, which rapidly turns into one of assessment.

"A good worker never blames her tools, dahling."

She starts in surprise, then looks up. "The tools are working fine. It's the damn circuit that's not connecting and I can't figure out why..."

"Perhaps a break may be in order?" the miniature egomaniac suggests. "Perhaps a new project. I often find that helps."
