Out by the lake shore, Veronica is jogging, chasing the last hour or so of sunlight. It's a good time to run. There's just enough of a breeze across the water, just enough residual heat from when the sun was high; long shadows stretch across her path like railroad tracks ( Read more... )

Mills is taking advantage of the fresh Scottish air to put a few hundred rounds down range. He has three magazines, two boxes of .45mm, one of which is empty, the other is half done. Any observer from the trail can watch as he pockets two magazines, and loads the third.

He's practising off hand today. He hurt his wrist in Paris, and he was not as sure in magazine changes as he wants to be. That means practice. Empty a magazine, drop it and reload, empty the second magazine, drop it and reload, and empty the last magazine.

The crack of gunshots does serve to split the calm a little. Veronica is put on edge, running a little more cautiously until she comes into view of the range.

It's Milliways, you never know.

Seeing Mills, she slows, waiting for him to stop before she approaches. Startling the guy with the gun is never a good idea.

Mills hears her footsteps on the path and glances behind to see who might be approaching. One eyebrow rises and a lop-sided grin isn't far behind.

"Agent Mars." His tone is respectful.

He secures the weapon by dropping the magazine and locking the slide back so she can see that it's empty before he sets it on the small table and turns to greet her, hands clasped in front of him. It's a stance she'd recognise from her firearms instructors at the Academy.

"Mills. Hey."

She's still faintly out of breath, but offers a quick grin.

"Didn't mean to interrupt."

Having not taken advantage of the Milliways outdoors the first time he arrived, Methos is now perched on one of the rocks by the lake, knees pulled up to his chest, long coat fanning out behind him like a sort of tail.

As Veronica comes around, he turns his head, squinting into the sun and offering up a friendly smile and wave.

"Evenin'."

It's as good a place to stop as any. Veronica jogs to a halt, offering a quick nod as she pants.

"Hey."

One hand goes to the pulse in her neck, as with the other she watches the seconds on her watch.

"In training?" he asks, curiously.

(It's a safe bet that, if he were a cat, he'd be dead by now.)

"Just keeping up on things," she replies, words clipped short.

Eventually she lets her hand drop, catching her voice somewhat.

"It's nice weather for it."

Veronica isn't the only one getting in a few laps. Ako's doing some running here too, if she spent much longer at her homework her head would have exploded.

Metaphorically.

Head exploding is bad! Running is good.

Veronica spots the girl from some distance. As they come close, she shoots her a nod, in the universal runner-to-runner fashion.

Running is very good. Study is... tragically necessary.

Ako returns the nod with maybe a little more neck movement and does her best to keep up. It's always easier to push when there's competition, even the friendly type.

Oho, a race is it? A brief grin flashes across Veronica's face before she goes back to focusing on the run, speeding up ever so slightly.

What a coincidence! That's where Veronica's headed!

Well, it is now, anyway.

It's a public lake. Veronica can run wherever the running's good.

And if Elle happens to be walking there, well, that's life.

Eventually Veronica gets close enough to call out, "Nice weather we're having, isn't it?"
