Jim is engrossed in Starfleet Intelligence reports and his coffee. Yes, he is aware that an attractive redhead is nearby, but somehow he really isn't taking note of her despite her looks.
"So...what was your native world?" He wonders how much he should ask, but is quite sure that it's not his timeline and thus not a question of temporal law violation.
"It seems likely. That you travel at all is not common, at least in my time. They 60% of humans never leave the system of their birth." An anecdotal number, but one that Kirk believes.
"As a passenger, or as crew?" Something seems a bit off here. He's not sure why, though he will admit that how civilians get from point A to point B is a mystery sometimes.
"You're perhaps a bit young to say that, but I don't know if my own experiences are a good guide." No permanent commitments to women, but one doozy of a commitment to a career.
