When Jane enters, she is focused on the manuscript pages in front of her and its not until she feels her hair around her shoulders and a rather unexpected draft.

When she looks down and sees her new outfit, her papers go spilling out of her hands as she tries to make the slit stay shut while not completely losing whatever dignity she has left.

"So," says a slightly buzzed guy standing not far away, "it's about damn time you got here. I've been telling you and telling you but you keep saying noooo, Max, you're crazy, what bar at the end of the Universe, I told you not to hang around the lab so often - "

He saunters closer, showing off the bar's interior with a sweep of his arm.

"This is Milliways. This is where I met that woman I told you about! You know, the one you said I made up? I bet she's somewhere in here. Let's see, where's Indiana Jones..."

[insert "colorful" language here]

A strange man is cursing at her so Jane stands up, clutching her pages rather protectively to her body as she puts on her coldest look,

"I believe that you have mistaken me for another woman, sir and please do not use that language around me."

... oh shit.

Max's eyes go wide and he claps a hand over his mouth, looking quite horrified.

"Oh - um. I'm sorry. I thought you were someone else - "

FAIL MORE, MAX.

"I swear I don't usually talk like that! I mean - I don't swear, but - yeah."

"I shudder to think who you were mistaking me for that you would speak to her in such a way. Not a terribly polite welcome to anywhere after all you did not even stoop to help me pick up my manuscript."

As long as Jane does not think about her hair being loose and this horrid outfit and concentrates on this slightly pitiful man, she will be fine.

"... Miss Austen?"

Tom's eyebrows are raised high in confusion and surprise.

Jane really wishes that she could somehow fall into the floor and focuses on gathering her papers before she gathers herself and stands up, holding the damned dress shut.

She fears she's flushed and hopes he will mistake it for anger,

"Mister Lefroy, is it the habit of this place to garb its patrons in unusual wear for no apparent reason?"

"I haven't the foggiest," Tom says with a mildly amused shrug. (Okay, it isn't particularly mild.)

"It hasn't happened to me as of yet, anyway."

A slow smirk might be making its way across his face.

Her glare would probably be more effective if her hair wasn't falling around her face in attractive waves,

"How lucky of you. Help me find something to cover myself with."

"Oh it's fine as it is."

Have a leering half goat god, Miss Jane.

Jane looks up and then tries to look anywhere but up,

"Um, thank you, sir."

Then as quickly as she can, she gets herself vertical, clutching her manuscript as protection.

He's being a good little goat and wearing something to cover up. It's just it doesn't cover it that well. Especially not from her angle.

"Sir, hmmm not exactly a sir. But not mortal either," He shrugged, and then noticed some random beads getting tossed his way.

"Ohhhh... is it that time again? Wonderful!"

She is currently looking at her papers since that means she doesn't have to look elsewhere,

"What time, sir?"

"Miss Jane, you look very lovely."

Says the woman in what...might...somewhere qualify for decent clothing outside the bedroom.

"Your dress is beautiful."

Jane looks up and honestly has no idea what to say at that dress and the young woman who is addressing her.

That looks gets a small light laugh, as Charlie clasps her hands behind her, shifting her balance in the fantastically high boots she has.

"You wear that dress very well."

"Thank you, I was not expecting it."

Finally she is able to stand up as she holds her papers.
