Peter looks surprised when the door swings open to reveal Milliways, which is probably because he is. He looks surprised again when the bar greets him with a box that turns out to contain a large and fuzzy gray sweater.

Very fuzzy. He pokes it, and looks surprised again.

Huh.

It's Peter Whatsisfacelli.

Jayne, who has turned around when the door opens - you never know who's gonna walk in holding a gun - makes a (loud) dismissive noise and turns back to his beer.

Peter blinks.

That looked -- kind of like recognition. At least he doesn't think there's anything about his appearance that would call for loud dismissive noises. Although his forehead feels strangely naked.

"Hey -- uh." He's still got one hand on the extremely fuzzy sweater. "This might sound a little weird, but do I know you?"

It takes a moment, but finally Jayne heaves a sigh and swivels around to squint at Peter.

"Yeah," he says, morosely. "What, you got hit in the head or somethin'?"

Kaylee's gonna throw another whole hell of a fuss when she finds out. (So it's just as well she ain't on the ship and it ain't no job of Jayne's to tell her in any case.)

On the other hand, Jayne reminds himself, it's completely possible that this is just another manifestation of Peter's natural simplicity.

"Um," says Peter, taken aback, "I don't know. Maybe? I don't remember."

Which would be the problem.

"Peter?"

The voice is full of surprise. She hasn't seen him since they'd been separated. Since ending up in the future. A place she hadn't quite liked and before coming to Milliways had been stuck in.

Peter turns around, sweater in hand...and blinks at her.

"Hi?" he says uncertainly.

Oh... not again. She's not sure how much of that she can handle. After all, she's dealt with this before.

"You don't remember me, do you?" That Irish accent is comin' out thick. And there's a sadness to it. This hurts.

"Not really," says Peter, looking slightly unnerved, "but -- don't take it personally? I don't remember anybody."

Jayne said -- oh, god. He really hopes she's not...a customer.
