It was sopping wet in Shephard's room last night, so after some discussion, he and Chell got two emergency substitute room keys from the Bar. He doesn't really care, to be honest- one room's pretty much like another around here, and he's planning on going home soon anyway, whenever Chell's ready. For now he's just in one more holding pattern. About ( Read more... )

Living where he does MC has never actually seen a gun before. It'll be April before he becomes familiar with them at all.

There's a little bit of awe on the teenager's face.

Shephard's got the gun halfway to his shoulder before he realizes he's being watched. He lowers it and turns to see who it is. He's got his mask on; the way he figures it, if he and Chell and the others are gonna take the Scab by means of the old sewers, there's probably gonna be some kind of use of chemicals, and he doesn't want to get out of practice.

It's a skinny Japanese kid, not terribly tall, who stands out primarily based on the fact that he's got naturally blue hair.

"Hi?"

Huh. That's... interesting.

"Afternoon," says Shephard, raising one hand in a bit of a wave. "Somethin' I can help you with, kid?"

After drying off and getting some rest, Chell's up and around. She asked Bar where she might find Adrian, and it provided a warm winter coat, so Chell trucked outside to see her friend. Her pistol's wet too, and unlike Adrian, she doesn't know how to clean guns.

So she'll just watch for now.

He's shooting with the mask on today. That and the helmet kept all kinds of horrors from getting hold of him at Black Mesa; he doesn't see why he shouldn't keep up the habit. It's going to be important again eventually. It always is.

After he finishes the Rifleman's Creed, though, he's silent. The gun does all his talking for him until it's time to reload. This is pretty nearly the definition of serious business, after all.

Chell's happy to watch, learning with every flick of her eyes back and forth. She learns best by doing and not demonstration, but this is still useful.

Besides, she's not nearly stupid enough to interrupt a man with a gun.

Wise girl.

When he comes to the end of his clip Shephard reloads without pausing, but lowers the weapon immediately and flicks the safety on. He's got an idea of when he's being watched, after all. Once he's seen that it's Chell the helmet comes off and he pushes his mask up on his head. "Afternoon, Chell," he calls. "How's it goin'?"
