Mai pauses as she opens the door to find Milliways.

This place again.

Well, she's here. And the tea is good. She might as well stick around.

Which means that a few minutes later she's sitting at a table out of the way with a teapot and a single glass. She is neither expecting nor inviting company.

Well, if 'company' includes 'drifting by the table, holding a mug of hot chocolate very carefully in both hands.'

River's hands are steady, but all the same the whipped cream has slopped a little at least once.

Mai spends a lot of time looking like she's not paying attention while paying a lot of attention. She notices River, or at least she notices the way River moves.

Which means she's watching River quite intently.

River's grace is an odd one: smooth, balletic and barefoot, and yet she places her feet with a care that suggests either a pattern of her own devising or obstacles visible to no one else, and there's an almost childish intensity of focus on carrying that mug. Her gaze flicks away, skidding across thin air to fix on something across the room, and then to Mai.

Mai flicks her gaze to whatever nothing River is looking at before she turns it back to River.

That girl is dangerous.

Xaldin is copying out pieces of reports for those interested. Which in general would be completely and utterly boring, but may gain interest by the fact that he's pacing roughly a foot above the heads of those walking in the bar, and the report that he's reading is keeping pace with him in the air while he copies it onto papers held in a clipboard.

It's the walking on air that catches Mai's attention.

She's seen a lot of weird stuff in Milliways, but this isn't just magic. He's manipulating the air.

That might explain the staring. Even if it's subtle staring.

He is the air he's manipulating. His face - when he looks back at her - is empty and blank. He doesn't have even the range of expressions that she does evidenced.

He can. He's just not bothering to fake it.

She's eying him. But he doesn't look like someone from her own world. So... he's probably not an airbender.

Without permission, the seat across from Mai's is taken and a second glass is requested of the wait-rat.

Azula smiles.

Mai looks up and blinks.

"I haven't seen you here in a while, Azula." Her voice is, as ever, flat.

"Hm? I don't recall ever seeing you here before... Interesting. Why don't you tell me about it, Mai?"

Sweet, BFF chit-chat of course! Never mind that no requests from Azula are actually just requests.

"You don't remember." It's not a question.

"The three of us came through together a while back." She doesn't feel the need to explain who the third girl is. "But I haven't seen either of you in here during my occasional visits."
