Happy Hour!

Sep 03, 2008 18:54

A muse in her usual black and silver draperies and bare feet walks through the observation window and over to the bar. She wrinkles her nose when she sees there's no 'tender and walks around behind the polished wooden surface. The trail of tiny planets and stars that followed her in dance around for a moment and then spread themselves out along the ( Read more... )

When the specials are spotted today, they evoked a brilliant smile and a soft glow which emanated from the Star's skin.

"Which one of the first three is best?"

"The Star Burst is like a milkshake. It's my favourite."

She smiles at the Star.

"Greetings, sister and cousin and daughter."

"And to you," Star said, brightly, tracing her finger along the bar as little shimmers echoed it's wake. "I would like to try one of those."

Cal smiles when he sees tonight's list of specials. It matches up with all the people he's met who have been to space. It seems appropriate. It's a theme.

So he takes a seat and says, "I'll have a Starseeker, please."

The Muse mixes the ingredients together and a tiny gilded planet nudges the beverage into his waiting hands.

"Good even, sir."

Cal's eyes widen. Cool.

He looks up at the young woman and smiles. "Good evening, miss," he says, instinctively adopting her formal phrasing. Social camouflage: one of the many tricks Cal was taught for a successful political career, and one that can kick in without his even noticing.

"Can I... get you anything else?"

She smiles artlessly and the tiny planet bobs against her fingers on the bar surface.

"I'm sorry, can we get you anything else?"

She looks down at the little orb.

"Don't be pushy, you little brat."

Indy bellies up to the bar after a while, and cocks his head at the stand-in bartender and her celestial entourage. A charismatic smile quickly follows.

"Well hi there, Rai."

"Voluntarily picking up the slack, or did Bar rope you into this?"

"Doctor Jones!"

She looks pleased to see her sister's sometime companion.

"No, I came in for a cup of coffee and more paper and there was no one here and... the planets thought it would be fun. Like a game. Can we pour you something?"

"Sure," Indy chuckles. "Woodford Reserve, straight up."

He gestures at the requested bottle of Kentucky bourbon where it sits on the shelf behind her. More often than not, he's only too happy to watch a temp bartender search fruitlessly through the wines and other liquors in order to find his quirky whiskey orders. It's a rite of passage. But in this case he decides to be helpful, since she's sort of like family. Sort of.

"You never know these days. Seems like whenever Bar fancies a nap, she recruits the nearest punter into serving for her."

She gets the bottle and a glass and pours competently.

"Does she take naps more than she used to? Has anyone looked into diseases, like mono? Anyway, when my sisters have parties, I usually end up tending bar, since I'm not quite as... social? as they are. I don't mind, you get to meet everybody when you work behind the bar."

Rai and Medusa do, it should be said, look somewhat alike.

They are also night and day - Rai with her blacks and silvers, Medusa with golden wings and rich, vibrant colours. But, still, the Gorgon smiles at her.

"I didn't know you were here."

"Medusa!"

She squeals delightedly at her cousin and leans over to kiss her cheeks effusively.

"I didn't know you were here!"
