A wise woman once said: Fractions are the work of the devil. Dinah would have to agree. The problem is, that it doesn't stop her having to tackle this math homework by tomorrow

"I think it's going to rain," says the man who, for the second time in his life, has walked into Scotland when he meant to walk through the jungle.

Dinah glances up from her book and frowns at the sky.

"But I was getting comfortable."

[imthegoodguy]

"That's nature for you." Pause. "Do you need help getting up?"

Dinah gives him a rather confused look as she gathers her books and folds herself up in one easy motion.

"No."

Charlie is once again doing his morning exercises. Today it's a strange mix of taekwondo and savate, heavy on kicks, with pauses to cool down and meditate. Richard Dragon, Charlie would note, teaches some very unexpected things. He sees the teenager out the back of his eyes but is pretty much leaving her alone. He also doesn't notice the weather, except in that he hasn't seen rain in a long while.

Dinah obviously doesn't recognise any style belonging to any particular sensei, but she does look up and notice someone practicing martial arts in the training area.

And the more he practices, the less she's interested in her studies. Tae Kwon Do she recognises, Savate not so much.

Eventually she's standing and watching, her books clutched to her chest.

He realizes that once again he has an audience. He doesn't mind.

Charlie also could swear that her face is familiar. Which means he will have to ask why that should be so, but not till he's done. A few more minutes should do.

One of the quirks of their shared universe, apparently, is that women with dark hair look entirely and completely different from blonde women, even without masks to hide their identities.

Dinah is blissfully unaware of any familiarity, and stands and watches patiently, not dreaming in the slightest of interrupting training. She respects it too much for that.

"Greetings, fair Dinah!" Herc says with a little wave. "What knowledge doth thou be seeking today?"

"Hey, Herc."

She had been examining a snap dragon, but is all smiles when she grins up at him.

"Algebra. It's evil."

"Aye," Herc says. "The evils of Pythagoras and his fellows eludeth even me."

She laughs and sits up properly, hugging her knees.

"But I've got to get through this if I don't want to fail the year - which I really don't. The quicker I get High School over with, the better."

The robot must be confused. He thinks some of this stuff is trash.

Boy is somebody gonna be irritated when they realize he's compacted their stuff.

Whoops?

Dinah had been staring into space, admiring the lilacs. She notices a little too late.

And squeals.

"Aaaagh! Gerroff!"

NO ROBOT HERE.

Just an orange block.

Really.

Please don't kill him.

Dinah picks up what's left of her homework, and tries to figure out what's salvagable. The process involves a lot of flailing and paper shuffling.

"Oh no no no she'll never believe a robot ate it..."

Someone purple is coming by in purple wellie boots.

Dinah is by now looking for any distraction. She looks up at the movement, and grins at him. "Hi."

"Hi yourself!" says the purple-booted purple fellow, grinning down at her. "Do you enjoy the garden?"

[raptorcanaria]

"Yeah," Dinah says, sitting up properly. "I love what you've done with the borders. I mean - is it yours?"
