Calligraphy, RSC style.*

Mal's walking into the bar at the end o' the 'verse just now, and by the looks of things, he has a Plan.

Not as good as a Way, but he tries.

Mandarin Calligraphy, for Sale, Trade, or Because I Feel Like It

At least he's to the point.

A while back Lissar was described to Mal, and when she pauses by his sign it's with an interested and vaguely confused expression.

She kinda-sorta recognizes the calligraphy from the one Ironhide got her.

"...You keep using words I do not know." Lissar says blankly. WHich means, the point goes over her head.

Mal restrains himself from facepalming.

"Sorry about that -- it's words from this language, Chinese, that I'm writing. Everyone in my 'verse speaks both."

"My language," Lissar offers, "sounds like English, and has most words the same as English, but is not actually English. Contractions." she makes a moue of distaste. She doesn't get them, "So I am a step farther from the normal than one who does not speak the language at all. I think I confuse the Bar."

"Thought the bar actually translated most things -- I still don't know why she lets me and mine get away with the Mandarin most of the time."

"It is, I think, too subtle a difference. Just enough that I sound a fool often. Less as I get used to living on Earth." It doesn't really concern Lissar, talking to people is still something she's done for less than a year and she figures she'll get better with time. "But it does mean that context does not give me everything needed for words in yet other languages."

"For what it's worth, I don't think you sound foolish."

It comes off as more a statement of fact than a compliment as Mal fidgets with some of the disorganized ink sticks at the bottom of their box.
