Cyrus didn't have that much to drink last night. He thinks. But how else can he account for the way the Bar looks when he comes in for breakfast. It's like one of his sons' bedrooms were when they were seven. Only multiplied a dozen times over ( Read more... )

"Now this," says Ray on the next stool over, "is what I call a serious step away from humanocentrism. I didn't know the place went this all-out over stuff that didn't have to do with Earth."

"You know what this is about?" Cyrus maintains a look of confusion mitigated perhaps only by the fact that Ray does seem to be an expert in the strange.

Ray taps the Bar. "Give the man a vidscreen, would you?" he asks.

Hello! Welcome to Milliways. Today, Milliways marks the Cybertronian holiday of Cubefall, the anniversary of the day upon which the Allspark first landed on the rocky world that would become Cybertron. Would you like to sample some possible reconfigurations? (y/n)

He recalls for some reason the scene in the second Back to the Future where the dueling video monitors accost Michael J. Fox. That he's not being accosted by Ron Headrest or the Ayatollah doesn't quite put him at ease.

"I don't understand a word it just said, Ray."

It shouldn't be surprising that Madolyn doesn't recognize him.

Heading straight from the door to the bar, she takes a seat a few stools down from Dempsey!Cyrus, obviously a little dazed by the place's transformation.

The vidscreen is eyed with a little apprehension.

"Er, could I get a coffee, first?"

Cyrus is ready to eat breakfast - he's gotten one suited to a heavyweight champ, with lots of eggs and steak and pancakes, but sees Madolyn before he can really eat much. He ponders playing coy and pretending to really be Jack Dempsey, but she could do the same to him later if she wanted, so he's going to be fair.

"Er, Madolyn...hi. It's Cyrus."

He gets a look, as does the coffee mug now in her hands.

"Bar's work?"

It seems like a reasonable question, more so given the contents of the viscreen.

"Yes. What do you think of the heavyweight champion of the world, Jack Dempsey?" He shadowboxes for her. "I know it's weird, but it feels great."

"Well, now," says the robot passing by. "The Manassa Mauler!" He sounds remarkably cheerful. "Normally that way, or are you taking advantage of Cubefall?"

It seems appropriate that the holiday would bring Cyrus his first meeting with a robot. It takes a moment for him to stop gawking. (He wonders why the robot seems vaguely familiar, but doesn't remember the Optimus Primal toy his son had a few years back.) "Um, it's not usually me.

"But I'm impressed that you recognize the face. Unless you're from his time?" A robot in the early 20th century? Seems unlikely, but never impossible around here.

"No, no, when we came to Earth, we connected to the World Wide Web and learned language and history from that. I found myself interested in sports, and spent time looking up information, and from there learned about baseball, football, hockey, basketball (which I find a bit boring, but that's just my feeling) and boxing. And few could spend time learning about boxing without knowing Jack Dempsey." He extends a hand.

"Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots. Happy Cubefall."

"Er, Cyrus O'Dell, former dean of Neptune College. Same to you." He's tempted to grip as hard as he can, but thinks that might be a bad idea. "You're one of the robots whose holiday this is, right?"
