Shortly afterwards, a probably-familiar figure skulks past, collecting empty glasses from tables.

(She spent the last couple nights here; it's a lot warmer and drier than a doorstep in London, and now she's only got four shifts left to work.)

*He does a slight doubletake at the kid, and smiles.*

*Evidently his advice has been taken to heart!*

Right. Obviously.

Kim glances his way absently, and does a doubletake of her own.

Oh, bugger -- of all the people she's supposed to apologize to, the last one she wants to deal with is that self-righteous f--

She scowls, and stubbornly heads for the bar with her load of empties.

Unfortunately, she has to come back to this area sooner or later.

*...well, that wasn't a very friendly look.*

*Andrew chews his lower lip, and begins to rethink his conclusion.*

In Ray's New York it's relatively late as well, but the thing about Ray is that he no longer has any real sense of exactly where his circadian rhythm is supposed to fall. As long as he gets eight or nine hours of sleep out of every twenty-eight hours lived, he's pretty good. Milliways is for sleeping as much as anything else.

It is, however, also for meeting people you know- and so he heads over to Andrew's table as soon as he spots him.

*He glances up from his half-eaten grilled cheese (with mayonnaise, just the way he likes it) at the sight of the other man.*

Hey, Ray. How's it going?

"Pretty much okay," Ray says. "We got a good day in today with the new trainees. Nothing rose out of the ocean and tried to devour anybody while they were practicing with the proton packs, so I consider that coming out ahead. How're you doing?"

*Andrew sighs.* Okay, I guess.

Long day. There was a Council meeting conference call that went on for hours.

*Andrew doesn't see him there at first.*

*When he's looking for a waitrat to order a refill, though, he spots the god and slips out of his chair to head over.*

Heph gives the lad a nod.

"They're done," he says.

Done? All of them?

That's great! *Andrew beams.*

A kid stretched out on a nearby sofa looks over, then puts a piece of paper into the book he's been reading, sits up and walks over.

"Hey. I'm not trying to be nosy, but, man, you look like someone ran over your dog, twice, with a big truck. You okay?"

He looks genuinely concerned, for someone who doesn't know this guy from Adam.

*Andrew glances up.*

Oh. Yeah, I ... I guess I'm okay. Long day, is all.

Thanks.

"'Scool, man. My friends say I help them feel better, and I don't mind helping. So if I'm being nosy, tell me to take a walk and I'll get back to this." He displays a copy of 'The Old Man And The Sea'. "But I will take any opportunity to stop reading it," he finishes with a grin.

*His face goes very dubious at sight of the book.*

Make a deal with you: you distract me from my long day, and I'll distract you from the Hemingway boredom?
