Enzo's interested in working some more on that User music Tommy gave him, and those songs would just raise too many questions in his world. Thus, he has once again smuggled the guitar through the student lounge bathroom, into the utility tunnels, and thence to Milliways ( Read more... )

Roundabout with Roundabout, eh? Well, someone might have something to say about that...if he only knew what it was first. This started out with a small greenish-red null wandering about, who was perchance to hear this tune.

What is it?

Music, yes (Well, he hopes...), but what kind? The null - Welman Matrix - slid forward and soon saw Enzo standing there. At least...it LOOKED like Enzo. One had to be sure, though... After all, that suit was REALLY throwing him, what with limited vision and all.

"Enzo? What are you playing? I'm afraid I'm not familiar..."

Naturally not. Who in Mainframe would?

Oh? This had his attention. Wonder what she was up to...

"People will always form opinions of you that will stick for a while. They have to be gradually-enlightened to other truths if you want them to see the better side of things. I know from experience."

Tell us about it. Suggest to the system that you're not the center of all and people think you're the town crank.

Or, you can just shove incontrovertible evidence of those other truths in everyone's face. Hopefully without blowing anything up.

"So, what do I do?"

Technically, Welman did both, AND things blew up. Therefore...SCIENCE!

"Well, you haven't alienated the entire school, right? You have some friends who would help you out of a snare? Start small, and work your way up."

Oh, if ONLY he knew what Matrix and AndrAIa were up to...

Do Matrix and AndrAIa fall under the heading of 'incontrovertible evidence'?

"Yeah, my roommates still like me. And Val and Tone are nice. And Alvey." May as well be honest here... "She's the one I messed up with, but we made up."

"Hmmm... Half of them apear to be turned by merely the rumor, correct? Maybe planting a few contrary items to shed some better light is in order."

In other words, you need some PR, kid!

Enzo rolls his eyes. "Dad... you're doing it again..." he whines.

"Er, sorry."

Science mode off, dad. Science mode off!

"Still, you're going to have to sort it out slowly. It'll work out in the end."

"Yeah." Sigh. "I didn't think having friends my age would be this hard!"

That one hits closer to home than Enzo realizes at the moment. No other sprites his age in Mainframe...

"It's how others are, son. They're complicated."

He could compile a dissertation on this, no challenge.

Don't worry, Dad. He's stopped blaming you personally for that. Mostly.

"It's not fair."

This leaves the null to think for a bit. Then, he looks up.

"How much do they like music over there?"

Uh oh... Where was he going with this...?

Enzo's eyes widen at this, and then he laughs. "I'm not that good yet, Dad!"

"You could be, in time."

He was in an upright position making offhand gestures with a pseudopod now. It looked kind of funny.

"And no time passes in Milliways..."

Hey, what was he doing when he came in here? There's plenty of time for that at the end of the universe. And people would be in awe back at the academy if he was suddenly awesome.

They'd also be a little confused if he came back and he'd already passed his next upgrade. No Bill & Ted-style crash course for Enzo, thank you.

Still, using Milliways for practice sessions... Enzo grins. "You know, my friend Tone plays the drums. And I think Caret said he can play theremin." 'Course, half the children in cyberspace are at some point forced by their parents to take theremin lessons.

This promotes a short laugh from Welman. He was beginning to like this thought.

"Why not? Even if you don't think you're good enough, forming a band might be a good idea."

Written and null-approved!
