"Mmm, should I ask the years or just say Happy Birthday?" That would be a quiet purr of a voice, speaking Mexican Spanish. The voice's owner is a couple years older than he last saw her (not that it is easy to tell), bustier, but still seeming to run around in jeans and demure blouses.

There is someone leaning over the divider from the bench behind Ramon's.
It sounds like she's humming--The Birthday Song, to be precise.

'Funny,' he says, drily.
Yes, he recognises her voice. No, he doesn't celebrate his birthday. Not often, anyway.
'Want some cake?'

She climbs over the divider and drops onto the seat. "Sure thing. Pass the fork."

He pushes the fork towards her and lights himself a cigar.
'What have you ben up to?'
His tone of voice, if she catches it, has the hint of someone making an effort to keep it light.
