[OOM: So we've saved the galaxy...what next? (Mass Effect spoiler warning.)]

The Front Door opens, and a petite humanoid female in an eccentric-looking environmental suit and mask enters Milliways for the very first time. Like most first-time visitors, she is very surprised to be here. She emits a startled noise and stumbles backward into a Read more... )

Jim, drinking coffee and reviewing the daily reports, sees the two women. One is clearly not human, which is noteworthy in a place so overwhelmed by his race.

"I would suggest you leave your gun holstered. There's not much call for it around here."

"A temporal anomaly at the end of spacetime. And also a bar called Milliways. I don't really know how this place works, but whoever or whatever runs it apparently decided to give you a door from your timeline." He says this calmly and with a small and reassuring smile.

"My name is Captain James Kirk. Planet Earth, Sol System, 23rd century." Just because one of them looks human doesn't mean she's Terran.

"Nothing will harm you here." said Watson from a nearby table, where he was sipping his tea idly.

"Well, no. I agree. I was not being particularly reassuring. However, I was, on the other hand, being truthful. But you are in no immediate danger."

Watson was not very worried. Perhaps Milliways was giving him more of a blithe outlook than was necessary.

Speaking of which...

"This is Milliways. The Bar at the End of the Universe." He motioned his head at the Observation Window. "Incidentally, violence is one of the rules not tolerated here. It would have been a pity in my opinion if you were to spend your first moments here in a cell. In any case, unless you can see a Door around here, then no. You are, essentially, trapped. As I am."

Tali looks somewhat furtively over her shoulder: Shepard does too, although with more calm. "I still see a door," Shepard says. Tali nods in agreement, and both women seem to relax a little. "We're going to have a problem, though, if someone else comes in here the same way we did," Tali remaks. "Or if they use the same door, it goes where we meant to go, and they don't see us there."

Shepard is actually wondering about this 'End of the Universe' business, but...one thing at a time.
