A couple of days worth of sleep, some cough and cold medicine, and finally some warmth were enough to get Gene out of the infirmary. At least for now- his hands still twitched from the lack of morphine on their time on the line. Or maybe it was his nerves..either way he still cursed himself mentaly for even being so close to breaking ( Read more... )

That can be arranged! How does five feet of yellow-and-chrome robot with black racing stripes in places sound as a distraction? Because one of those is peering at the man's soup in the hopes of finding out what's so interesting.

He's not getting any unusual readings out of the bowl, so...

Gene didn't notice the shadow at first. He was to busy remembering the last couple of weeks before the sounds of something moving, something mechanical infront of him seems to pull him out of it. Turning still slightly sunken eyes up towards the robot he blinks once then a second time before opening his mouth to speak.

Instead there's a series of coughs that come out causing him to let the spoon go. "Hi there.." the combat medic says hoarsly.

A few robotic fingers wiggle in a small, shy-looking wave, and somewhere in the robot's chest a speaker flares:

I told you once, I told you twice
All seasons of the year are nice
For eating chicken soup with rice

It's hard for him to manage a specifically quizzical expression, but the robot does try, at least? And points at the bowl?

With a little shake of his head, the uniformed man sets the spoon down and pushes the bowl away. He wasn't that hungry anyway. "Only if yous up t' eatin it," comes the Cajun accepted reply. How can he eat when his stomach still was mad at him? Bad thought pattern, yes, but it was the truth.

"Do you..ah..want it?"

Magic is good at distractions.

She's also good at begging. At least she isn't begging for a medic, persay. She's just begging at a medic.

C'mon. She's a cute dog. At least he's good for a few scritches, right?

The sound of whining does get his attention but it takes a while. Even a tired little smile crosses the sick man's face before he takes the spoon out of the bowl, setting the chicken noodles down for the dog to have if she wants it. "Hey there.."

Reaching out he hesitates a moment before trying to scratch Magic behind the ears. "You here alone or somethin?"

The noodles disappear with aclarity, and she leans heavily against Eugene's hand. She's a master at the fine art of appreciating human interaction.

And no. She's not alone. If anything, Ace never wants to be presented with someone's coffee cup by her pup after said dog gets loose for the night. Ace (and two more dogs - the tiny Doberman named Leela, and a rather larger fluffball named Rasia) is curled up on the couch, reading.

Magic prefers to make friendly with strangers, is all.

There is a soft laugh with some coughing next as Gene continues to scratch at Magic's ears. "Hungry aren't y'?" Somehow the smile grows a little more as he looks around. He has nothing else left on the table that would be good for her so he pulls out a very stale k-ration box, poping open the top and finding nothing in there either.

"Sorry...think yous jus' cleaned me out."
