Teja was standing by the water's edge, feeling cold. Wherever the lake was supposed to be, it was turning towards winter in that place. Sharply ( Read more... )

Miho trains outside in all weathers, and all times of day. Also, inside, on the roof, up trees - any kind of footing she can think of. It's good to keep in shape.

In this case, she's been swimming. It's cold in the lake - very, very cold, and her skin is distinctly blue. Still, when she walks out of the water in her one-piece swimsuit, she towel dries briskly - and then sets to some kind of aerobic exercise. If her body can't warm up on it's own, she's not working hard enough.

She purses her lips, tilts her head to the side - and then shakes it. No, after a fashion. Or at least, she doesn't use it - which might as well be the same as not having it.

"You are - you cannot speak?" Teja asks, his stance relaxing.

There had been mute people in his time, of course. There had been, even, special slaves with their tongues cut out, in Byzantium...

That's it! Clever boy.

She nods.

"But you hear what I say," he states.

"And you fight."

Pause.

"Without clothes, on this cool morning."

Icy cold, but saying so would wimpishly infer that he's from Italy and this is too cold for him.

"You are not a mortal woman, are you?"

There is an eyeroll. Really, it's not that cold.

She nods, and twirls. All human, here.

"You should be more careful, if you're a mortal woman," Teja says. "It is not only cold here; there might be creatures about, much more dangerous than a warrior with an axe."

He looks at her feet.

Pfft.

Her feet are, of course, bare. Really. Silly boy.

"Do you not fear disease?" Teja asks. "Do you not fear men that might do violence to one undefended maiden?""

Miho gives him another silent laugh, shoulders shaking. Oh, really, undefended?

Blink, and he'll miss it, but she appears to now have a blade in either hand, drawn and glimmering softly in the moonlight. Sorry, what was that? Undefended?

"You are not just a mortal woman!" Teja says, gripping his axe tighter, but not moving it - he's not afraid of a girl in a robe and bare feet.

What kind of girl has blades in her robe??

They weren't in her robe - they were on the ground, with her discarded clothes. She's giggling now, though, because he is funny!

"Have you no fear?" Teja asks. "Have you no modesty."

Pause.

"Have you no feeling for the cold?"

Miho blinks at him. No, she has no modesty - but then, even if she did, she was perfectly covered up. She looks down. She's even more covered now! What's his problem?

"You came from your bath, wearing nothing, in front of a strange man," Teja says. "It might have been someone much more dangerous than I am."

Pause.

"I am dangerous, just not to maidens."

Miho rolls her eyes. What, she has to prove this to him? She holds up a finger, skins out of the robe, and slips back into her jeans and t-shirt. It wouldn't be fair on him to let him be distracted, would it? Then, she returns to her place in front of him, bows, and drops into a ready stance. Come on then, if he thinks she's so delicate and vulnerable. She promises not to hurt him - much.
