Thursday Night 'Tending

Nov 15, 2007 18:45

Once a long time ago, when Tom first came to Milliways, Bar would only give him lukewarm tea and not the finest quality of scotch. However, that time is long past, Bar gives him the best, and Tom is quite fond of both her and the people who tend her ( Read more... )

And lo, he has a Mia eager to prove to another Slytherin that pink and green actually do go well together.

They're going to have trouble picking wedding colors otherwise.

"Evening, Tom," Mia says, happy yet obviously tired from work. It seems that she's spent the day out since, along with her usual robe, she's wearing a cloak and the scarf Nash gave her.

Which is currently pink, meaning she's happily discovered that it's charmed to change to match her outfits.

"Do you have any recommendations?"

"Hullo, Mia. I've heard tell that the apple martini is quite good."

Plus he knows how to make it.

"I'll give it a try, then."

Why not? It can't be any worse than the time she tried absinthe with Master Salazar.

"How have you been?"

He waves his wand and the ingredients pour into an elegant glass. He could do it the regular way, but why not have some fun?

"There you are," he says, sliding the glass to Mia. "I'm very well. Thought I'd pitch in a bit to help out."

A mostly-sober Roman approaches the bar. He looks at the board, and doesn't recognize anything, but that won't stop him.

He grins amiably. "What do you recommend?"

"Good evening. I'd suggest scotch, actually. That's my preferred drink. But perhaps some wine might suit you better?"

"I've had wine. I've even gotten Falernian, here, which surprised me. But I've had tequila, too, and it was more to my liking--stronger. I'm not sure where to start from there, but scotch sounds good. I'll have that."

"You won't be displeased," he says, pouring the scotch into a glass with a flick of his wand. "I'm Tom Riddle, Lord Ostium of the House of Arch, but for tonight I am your humble bartender. May I ask your where and when?"

The narration feels bound to point out that Bar, when properly functional, is no longer Bound to someone who dislikes Tom on principle.
Not that Larry knows anything about that. He just knows that if Lewis and Clark don't stop arguing over how to map the museum and actually do something to that end soon, he's likely to knock their heads together-- and hey, here's that bar again. With somebody actually tending, no less.
So he heads over and says, "Just some hot chocolate would be great, please."

"Certainly. Would you like a splash of anything stronger in it?"

He Accios the hot chocolate, landing it carefully before Larry.

"There you are."

"No thanks, I got pulled in here from the middle of work - cool trick. How'd you do that?"
He already half suspects the answer will be 'magic.' But it can't hurt to ask, and anyway, sometimes Larry has a short attention span.

"The drink? Magic. I'm a wizard. Tom Riddle, at your service for the evening."

"Hullo Tom," Draco remarked as he sat down, "Didn't know you tend. ...Oh, well that would explain it," As he noticed the wizard guide.

"Mind if I borrow that sometime? Probably be handy for wedding planning."

"If you like. It's an older book, from my generation. Not that I had any truck with that kind of thing before, but I thought if I was going to help out, I might as well have good resources at hand. Would you like anything?"

"Hmmm, maybe something more modern then. And I don't know. Anything more on the sweet side?"

"Sweet. Hmm."

Door went through a White Russian phase, but that might be too sweet.

"What about a vodka gimlet? 'Dora introduced me to that drink. Or how about the Havana Green on the specials list?"

Harry walks in from the brisk outdoors rubbing his hands together. His brow is knitted in thought as he takes a seat near the middle of the bar. Smoothing his white suit with his hands he pulls out a half empty pack of smokes and a zippo, lights one and looks for an ashtray.

"Hey there, pal, a bottle of bourbon and 2 tumblers. Oh, and an ashtray if you, please."

Well, that's easier than making a complicated drink. He waves his wand and the bottle and tumblers appear. It takes a moment to locate the ashtray, but an Accio spell solves that problem.

"There you are."

"Thanks buddy, that was pretty slick trick, there."

Harry pours one glass half full and the other just a smidgen.

He points at the short glass while ashing.

"Chaser."

Harry's smile is broad and genuine.

"Thank you. It's a trick of the trade, I suppose."

He smiles back. It's fun playing bartender.

"I'm Tom Riddle, temporary bartender. I'm filling in for an evening."
