He takes the tea from the returning waitrat, setting it in front of her on the bar. "That's a small blessing, at least. A very small one. How do you kill them? Just... chop them to pieces, or would burning work?"
"Set the webbing on fire and set the spider on fire if you can catch it. Else choping and stabing works quite well. Arrows are efficient too." The tea smells wonderful- a lavender mix for the perfect calming mix.
"This is the first leak in the wall of what I fear is to come. We may find the flood before our quest is over."
"A lot more spiders, or... whatever's behind them?"
He pours himself a glass of wine. If infernal spiders are just the first leak, he's not sure he wants to know what the rest would be. Not that he's afraid--he's not, he's Mark Antony!--but there's something to be said for caution.
"Whatever is behind them." Taking a sip of tea she closes her eyes letting out a held breath through her nose. "I have not told you the whole story..."
"Most of the time when people tell me the whole story, it doesn't make much sense to me anyway. Different worlds, and all--if it's not something you grew up with, you may not understand it. But I'm happy to listen." He takes a sip of wine.
"The Fushimi Shrine that I called home was attacked and a sword stolen. One when combined with a certain stone could easily destroy the world giving the wielder great power. Simple, yes?"
Another pause. Another sip of tea.
"We have to find the sword- for whatever it was to be able to get past the defenses of three kami and a group of monks makes no clear sense. Thus, the reason there must be something darker behind it. But what we do not know."
He listens attentively. In his world, legendary creatures and treasures are--well, legends. But in other people's, they are real, as he is learning. And it sounds very, very bad.
"I don't know if I'd be any good, it's not my world, but if you can use the help of a stranger, I'm happy to. It's better than just sitting here and drinking, anyway."
Reaching out a hand she lightly touches Mark's arm, bright blue eyes intent as she watches his face. "You are sure of this, Mark-san? It will be a very dangerous quest and I wish not to put any in danger who are not directly involved."
But, maybe that unwillingness to seek the aid of friends is what has her Bound now. It is hard to say.
"I will accept your offer if it is what you wish."
"I live for danger." He grins, all swaggering charm. "Well, danger and drink and women, of course. But danger is definitely a part of it. If I can help at all, I've got experience in battle. Years of experience. At your command."
"Are you all right?"
