All the crazies come out at Halloween, or at least that's how it's seemed to Sally Po. Were she a woman of less education, and with beliefs more firmly rooted in superstitious nonsense, she might even hazard the opinion that HQ were haunted, or at least that there were evil spirits following her for the majority of the day ( Read more... )

A certain Maes Hughes is leaning against the bar as she approaches, and he looks her up and down. There's an odd smile tugging at his lips at the sight of her and the outfit she's in, and he's torn between greeting her as the missed friend she is, or giving her the teasing she so richly deserves.

"I hadn't been aware," he says, finally, "That styles had changed so much during my absence."

What was the word he had heard? Retro, perhaps?

Sally's expression changes from peeved to pleased when she sees Maes. It has, after all, been quite a long time.

"Well, well, if it isn't the General! I'd been wondering where you'd gotten to, Maes. It's good to see you again." She sets her lantern down on the bar's surface. "As for the clothing... Well, it's for Halloween. Bar thinks that it's grand old fun to dress people up for holidays without warning. Especially when they've had bad days and don't need to be trussed up from head to toe in corsets and petticoats."

With some difficulty, Sally manages to situate herself on one of the barstools. Then she grins at Maes. "Buy you a drink, soldier?"

Hughes looks down at his own clothing, as if to check himself over for signs of a costume - even though he knows that there isn't one there. "I've been excluded from the fun, it seems," he says, sighing as if he's regretting this. "So it may take that drink to cheer me up."

Translation: Yes, you may.

"Well, you can always ask her to let you join in." Sally's grin turns sly. "Just be aware that you may end up regretting it. Bar's pretty capricious about stuff like this. You might end up dressed like a vampire, or stark naked with just a couple ostrich-feather fans preserving what's left of your dignity."

Sally taps her fingers on the bar. "Bar, anything Maes wants. Put it on my tab. Oh, and tempura udon for me." She looks to Maes. "Order yourself some dinner as well, if you want. I haven't seen you around here at all, the past few months."
