Lissar can smile and laugh. She doesn't do it often, but she can do it. In the dusk, with puppies tumbling over each other, she lets laughter out and turns her face up to watch the stars swirl and burn.

The white of her skin, hair, and dress stand out in the dimness, as does the long fur of Ash and spots and blotches on various of the puppies.

White that also stands out in the places not covered by the panserbjorn's armor as he pads out of the woods, strangely silent for such a huge beast, and one covered in metal armor. The great head, its upper half covered by the wedge-shaped helmet, turns this way and that, dark eyes set deep within the eye-slits catching sight of the laughing girl and her puppies.

The last time that Lissar saw a polar bear it had been, only moments before, the spitting image of her father.

That's not a good thing.

This is why the laughter cuts off, and she stills as she watches him in return.

And though the thick, heavy armor that Iorek wears marks the difference between him and any other polar bear she might have ever seen, it sure doesn't help make him look less threatening.

The bear notices the change in her attitude, being used to human's reactions to a panserbjorn, even from those who know what that is.

"Don't be afraid, girl. I intend no harm." He looks at the dogs keeping her company, then back at her, waiting for a reaction. Both his voice and his gaze are devoid of expression, hard to read even for those so skilled.

"Are you also a man who is at times a beast?" one of the first men she ever trusted is at times a wolf. The question is reasonable.
