So.

Jayne's got himself an actual date to a wedding.

It's safe to say that this is a new and unprecedented thing, and Jayne is pondering it, brow furrowed, over a glass of tequila.  Which does help with the pondering, somewhat.

Mary Anne puts frowning and booze together and gets:

"There's not something wrong with the tequila, is there?"

Never hurts to ask around here.

"I think he does," she says.

"Hasn't exactly stopped me from looking for other...redeeming qualities in other people."

Jayne's smirk has turned into an outright leer.

"Got any qualities you're lookin' for in especial?"

And the 'List of People Who've Leered at Mary Anne' grows by one.

"Not at the moment, but I usually don't. Gotta get to know a person first before you can say what you like about them, you know?"

Jayne has no doubt that it's an awful long list! He would like to think that his own leers have an extra je ne sais quoi to them, though.

. . . or he would, if he knew the meaning of je ne sais quoi.

Meanwhile, he says, cheerfully, "Depends on what you're lookin' for."

Shallow? Jayne? Never.

"Well, let's see."

She ponders this for a moment. Jayne deserves a thoughtful answer, after all.

"I'd like...someone who can take a joke, who's got a sense of humor. Someone who doesn't see anything wrong in sleeping with a married woman. Also, someone who hasn't threatened to kill me or one of my friends recently is a plus."

She's a simple girl with simple tastes, really.

"Oh, and any appreciation for knives or firearms is a very nice bonus."

"You ain't friends with a méiyŏu mŭqin de xiao gŏu by name a Logan, are you?"

She shakes her head.

"Nope. Should I be?"

"Most recent person as I threatened," Jayne explains, amiably. "Didn't even threaten t'kill him, just t'break all his bones or something. Can't rightly recall."

Jayne has grown!

It seems like just yesterday he was hoping to get him an ear. My, how time flies.

"Ah. I'll keep an eye out, but seeing as I haven't actually met him yet, you're in the clear."

Jayne grins.

"Good t'know."

"So I don't have to call you 'hey, you' at the reception--"

Not that she expects he'd mind too much, but a girl's got to have a little class.

"--what's your name?"

"Jayne Cobb.

"You?"

"Mary Anne Bell. Pleased to meet you, Jayne."

After she's secured her second round of tequila, she asks, "And who's the lucky lady you're escorting, if you don't mind my asking?"

Jayne takes another swig of his own.

"Lilly Kane Goodfellow - uh - got a couple a other names I can't remember just at this moment."

"Bosslady?"

She laughs. "Good Lord, who'd she marry now? Last I saw it was Raven and they had a plastic baby."
