After closing their latest case and feeling decidedly anticlimactic about it, Mulder felt some light reading was in order. He'd been meaning to reread the entirely absurd, but equally interesting, book he'd bought at a sci-fi convention a few years ago, theorizing alien foreplay rituals; he'd lost it, however, somewhere in the recesses of his ( Read more... )

From where the kitsune is sitting at the bar she has a very good little spot to watch those that come and go as they please. Inari had always found the newer arrivals to Milliways to be the most interesting ones to watch- the newest man to enter adding to the list she had going in her mind.

With the smallest of smiles she sets one of her papers down onto the pile she has infront of her. "I would be correct to assume," the petite Japanese woman says in a sing-song voice, "that you were not expecting to be here?"

He looks at the woman, smiling politely.

"You would be correct," he tells her, looking at the papers she put down. "I was looking for something in my closet and I ended up here. I guess it serves me right for never cleaning it out."

The letters on the page move. Typical Japanese writing that shift from 'page' to 'page' depending on where she touches it at. When the page is set down, however, all the words fade. "That does seem to be the most common way of entering into Milliways- through a place that you at least expect it." A warm smile followed by a little bow.

"Come. Sit. Share a cup of tea with me and I shall welcome you proper to this place."

He marvels at the page. Certainly, everything he's seen here so far as been extraordinary; this shouldn't amaze him as much as it does. But he supposes it's the simplest things that can make him smile, especially after all the 'big' things he's seen.

"Tea sounds good. Haven't had any in a while, actually. Usually I just drink day-old coffee loaded with sugar. Bad for the body, very good for the sleepy mind."

Reaching his hand out, he says, "I'm Mulder, by the way."

There is a very young girl staring very directly at him.

Her expression is torn with trepidation and doubt and something that look almost like faith.

But you'd have to talk to her to understand why the sight a federal officer, especially one who works on 'alien' cases, causes terror to be the thing distorting all her rational thought power.

He smiles softly, approaching her slowly and bending down a bit. He hasn't dealt with children all that often, and he has no idea what her background is.

Rather than just saying his last name, he decides to introduce himself with his first name. It might get a laugh.

"Hi, I'm Fox. I'm sort of...well, not lost, just not sure why I'm here."

He supposes he knows why, actually. It's due to the door in his closet. But anyway, he doesn't want to talk too much just yet.

"Seems like an okay place at the moment."

Allie's blue eyes watched him, seeming almost to darken and herself to pull in a little as he got closer. He had a really open face, and she didn't feel afraid, but she felt like she was sick all at once.

"It's....Milliways." She said after a pause, swallowing. "It, umm, takes people for reason most people don't know. Usually because they need something and don't know it or can't get it in their previous time, space, world, existence. But she does. So they come here."

This might sound all in good, if she didn't simultaneously look ready to bolt at any sudden movemnt.

Mulder watched her carefully. She looked young, but seemed much older. Given that he had no way of knowing just yet why she seemed so much older, he was going to do his best to be friendly and not frighten her off.

He nodded in response to what she'd said.

"People usually need something the most when they realize it the least. Or when it's nearly too late. I'm not sure what I'm doing here, but if I can learn something...I guess it's worth it."

He smiled at her. He didn't want to try shaking her hand or anything just yet.

"Can I ask you your name?"
