The usual vague stirrings of curiosity when the door opens causes Yrael to look up from his book (The Ties That Bind: A Study of the Heart and Its Workings) as the group enters the bar.
As he sees who it is, and who is being carried, the look of idle curiosity closes off to leave next to nothing in its vacated place. Yrael watches Liam carry his brother, silent, thinking of how much less music will be there to fill the room.
There was a moment of thought regarding the retrieval of the departed from Death, just as Yrael saw them, but that thought faded just as quickly as it was came. His friend looks to be at peace. He will have gone swiftly through the Gates, to his rest.
"Go well. Do not look back," he murmurs as they pass.
Liam catches the quiet words, passing close to Yrael's chair, but he doesn't pause for more than a second. Not now, not when he's been given no real reason to.
Yrael gets a silent and grateful look for the wish, though.
Yrael nods to Liam, like trust. Like understanding.
It is rare enough to find someone who knows what needs to be done, and has the strength of will to do it, that Yrael will not interrupt one who does know and is strong enough.
Sarah notices the group with confusion, only recognising Santi. But the man carrying what seems to be a body looks too much like Charlie for her to dismiss it. Quietly and cautiously, she walks closer to get a better view.
She's so confused, and now she's worried as her mind runs through a variety of scenarios. None of them are good.
"Oh god," she whispers, hands covering her face in dismay when she sees Charlie's head sticking out.
"Oh god, oh god, oh god."
Sarah feels like she's going to throw up, feels absolutely sick to her stomach. So she turns and runs back upstairs to James and safety. She'll try to find out what happened long after the shock dies down.
It's been a long time since he last saw Charlie, although he's been keeping an idle look out for him. He never expected to see him this way, though -- carried in as if he were a limp rag of a doll -- and so he rushes over.
"What happened?" He's long said that he wasn't (and isn't) afraid of death, but seeing it stare you in the face is a little different from thinking of it in the abstract and if there's anything that's clear, it's that Charlie is... gone. He saw enough dead men during the war and they've never stopped haunting his thoughts.
He studies the man's unfamiliar face and sees the faintest resemblance to Charlie in it. Of course, that could just be wistfulness talking.
His heart's fallen to the floor. When he speaks, it's in a whisper. "Is there anything I can do to help you?"
"Another pair of hands digging the grave'd make it quicker", Liam admits reluctantly. He has ideas about the rightness of doing that himself. "And someone needs to find Darien."
Liam remembers Moiraine, though they haven't spoken for a long time. He glimpses her on his path and looks her way without stopping his slow walk towards the door.

He will only wish them well as they go.

Charlie's face isn't covered in any way, so if she gets a good view... yes, it's him. And no, he's not unconscious.

"Drowned?"
Where... how...
But Charlie is -- was -- his friend: how could this be?
"Let me help you. Please."
There will be time for answers later.

He looks so very different now, of course, than he had when she had last seen him.
There is a sudden suspicious brightness to the dark eyes, but the Aes Sedai says nothing at all.

"Moiraine", he says quietly.

A beat of silence, then:
"How?"

"He drowned. From what I was told... he died to make sure the islanders would be able to go home."
