Last night, he dreamed about his father. (Mild spoilers for online novel,
War Heroes)

Tonight, Nathan was in the bar, in fact he was over by the bar. Making demands.

"Come on, I need to see it. It's important. I need to know what happens. What if they're right?"

Come over, and find out what he's asking for, and why Bar's refusing his demands.

"What's wrong?" Sally, from her spot a few feet away, sets her sewing aside for a minute to offer Nathan a sympathetic frown.

Sally feels some sympathy with Nathan; it is tough keeping the idealistic loved ones from floating away into the clouds, chasing after dreams that could blow up in their faces.

"You're a nice brother, to do that for him." Sally gives him a long smile. "What did your brother dress up as usually?"

Yeah, funny how the grounded brother is the one with the ability to float into the clouds.

Nathan gruffly replied, "I'm his only brother, not like I had much choice in it." Well, he didn't mind that much really, but shhhh...

"Spiderman. Mostly I think because of the similar names."

It's the universe trying to tell Nathan to lighten up?

And Nathan? Um... yeah, she's going to have to ask.

"Your brother's name is Spiderman? So... he's a spider?"

Forgive her? She comes from a town with a King Jack Skellington, so...

That, or the sky really is the limit on his potential ambition.

Meanwhile...

"What? No. ...You never heard of Spiderman? Peter Parker? My brother's name is Peter, so I think he could relate to him a little."

"Oh, no, I haven't!" Sally smiles brightly. "It's good to have someone to relate to. It makes life less lonely, I think. I had a friend, he felt all alone at one point, and decided to take over Christmas to try something new. It didn't work out too well, in the end." A pause.

"But he learned not to underestimate himself, I think."

"Take over Christmas??"

"He found Christmas Town and liked it, so he decided he could try to make it instead of the ones who normally make it." An embarrassed look down at her lap.

"He didn't quite make it work." Quickly, "But that is only because he is the King of Halloween Town, and not Sandy Claws, the leader of Christmas Town. And he did not ever mean for those nasty little children to kidnap Sandy Claws, just to deliver him to Oogey Boogey. That was their fault."

Stupid little Lock Shock and Barrel. Lucky thing Nathan never got to meet them.

Very lucky.

And he's not even going to try to understand of any of what she said.

"Uh-huh, sure. Corporate takeover gone awry, huh?" He decided to see about ordering something strong, and Bar immediately obliged with a single malt whiskey. And down the hatch it went.

"I guess?" She shrugs and turns back to her sewing. "At least he understands now though, why he's better suited as the King of Halloween Town." Her fingers work quickly, threading the needle over and under.

"Hopefully for Halloween next year I can go with him out into the Human World."

Pause.

"OH. Do you think your brother might like to come to Halloween Town?"

Nathan thought about it, "I don't know." Personally he didn't like the idea of his brother going anywhere like that.

"He's an adult now, too. You know?" Much as Nathan thinks his brother acts like a kid too often.
