"My condolences," drones a woman in Chris's vicinity. She is nursing a glass of red wine. Not her first glass of wine for the evening. Not by a long shot.

Chris glances at the woman, then at the bar and finally, at the woman again. "It was the mints. Wasn't it?"

Damn her love of free things!

"It was the goddamn bloody mints." Skinner would spit here if he didn't have any manners. "Never take anything free here. Ever."

"Yeah, I know," Chris sighs, running a hand over her face and resisting the urge to bang her head off the bar. "I should have learned after the crazy candy last year."

Or after talking to her dad about what just happened in the bar. That would have been good too.
