Annie has been fiddling with a few of the recipes she tested out last month, and today she intends to get her particular tweaks and changes validated. The sour cherry tarts have been upgraded to a full-on couple of pies, and she has taken the time to work up a small sign giving her name, the name and location of her bakery, and the recipe for the ( Read more... )

There is someone watching the pie (and the woman, but mostly the pie) with great interest.

Mostly, 'someone' is the top of a curly head and a pair of green eyes, as this particular hobbit isn't quite tall enough to see over the table.

Well that happens. Annie leans forward a little to get a better look. "You're welcome to a slice of the pie, so long as you tell me honestly what you think of it," she says. "I sell baked goods for a living, you see."

Pippin beams the singular beam of a hobbit who has just found an unexpected meal, quickly leaning up on his hairy toes to aid in further study. "I do like pies," he says, cheerfully. He glances up brightly. "What sorts are they?"

"Well, I did cherry this time," says Annie. "The one on the right's ordinary cherry; the one on the left is made with Ukrainian tart cherries. My name's Annie, and you are?"

This is Milliways- but Odile has (thankfully) missed any and all food incidents. She raises an eyebrow, reading over the sign, before looking at Annie.

"Are people in the habit of enchanting the food here?"

"I don't know that I'd call it a habit, but it occurs distressingly often," says Annie. "Not three weeks ago, someone bespelled a bunch of apples to take away their eaters' memories. I heard that whoever did it meant well somehow, but I hardly see how that's supposed to do anyone any good."

"I don't either, really." She shakes her head, frowning slightly. "Has it been countered, or are people still without their memories from it?"

Odile glances at the wait rats, then at the bar. "Does it happen often enough that it is safer to not eat any of the food here?"

"It's been countered. The amnesia apples weren't the Bar's food, though. It seems someone had a bowl of them out for people to take. He'd brought them from home." She shakes her head. "As far as the Bar's food goes, it's nearly always safe, I've found- unless it tries to offer you something you didn't order. In that case, there's probably a problem with the magic again."

"It doesn't matter if you have magic or not, Mrs. Wells. That pie smells amazing. Do you often have trouble with strange things happening, after you bake?"

Elda is sitting carefully on one of the booth tables. She's missed most of the magic chaos, recently.

"Hm? Oh, no- hallo, Elda- no, I don't," says Annie. "The Bar's just had a fit of people losing their memories because of enchanted apples someone was handing out, you see. As far as the other stuff goes, there was trouble with magical curry a while back, and I think something with tofu."

Elda looks cautiously down at her oranges, but it doesn't have anything magical about it that she can see.

"Rest assured, your pies have nothing odd about them. I would probably be able to tell, unless it was someone powerful who did the spell. And not many powerful wizards that I know bother with nuisance spells on pastries."

"Oh, good," says Annie, relieved. "Would you like some? ... er, assuming that you can handle a slice, of course. How does that work, with the beak?"
