A voice--a little raspy, a little sweet--and the sounds of a gently-played guitar carry out over the lake.

The water is wide, I can't cross o'er
Nor do I have wings to fly
Give me a boat that will carry two
And both shall row, my love and I.

Sometimes the old songs are the best.

molly hayes, barbossa, charlie pace

Barbossa is walking past to his own usual spot. He feels the urge to take a look at the Pearl today, a gut instinct that takes him back to the shore. Then he hears the song and tilts his head slightly. One of his crewmen used to sing it. Maybe Bootstrap himself.

"A ship there is, And she sails the seas.
Shes laden deep, as deep can be.
But not so deep, As the love I'm in.
And I know not if, I sink or swim."

He mutters the second verse under his breath, a small smirk appearing on his lips as he shakes his head and walks over towards the shore.

Charlie squints at him and smiles. "Sea-faring man, eh?"

Well, people around here seem to take piracy like some kind of romantic job, so he takes his hat off and does a sweeping bow.

"Pirate, in fact. Captain Barbossa, my young man. And you are, if I may inquire...?"

"Oh, pirate," says Charlie, with a bit of admiration and a hint of teasing.

"Charlie Pace. Guitarist and grandson of fishermen."

He's being watched by the slightly-moody little girl standing further along the lakeshore, the pink ears of her hat waving a little in the breeze.

Molly hums along, as best she can.

Charlie's used to having an audience. In fact, he prefers it.

A ship there is and she sails the sea
She's loaded deep as deep can be
But not so deep as the love I'm in
I know not if I sink or swim

She hums along, for a little while.

Then, suddenly, "What's that song called?"

"It's called 'The Water Is Wide.' It's a folk song." He adds, "And I'm called Charlie, and I'm a folk-song singer."

The music has another appreciative listener. Sooraya stands nearby, quietly. She applauds when he's finished.

And if Charlie's outside later, he may notice other people celebrating the day

He sweeps a bow over the guitar when he hears the applause. "Thank you, thank you very much," he says in his best Elvis.
