The fire had always been a favourite spot for relaxing. Le Chiffre had become so relaxed, in fact, that he had inadvertently dozed off during some light reading. Blame it on middle age ( Read more... )

Considering last night went so well, Puck has been on the lookout for more victims potential lovebirds. How lucky, then, that he happens upon Le Chiffre!

A quick dab at the eyes with some of his love-in-idleness, and Puck retreats invisibly to the rafters to see how it shall fall out.

Deitmar doesn't sleep in the bar. Ever. So he's wide awake and happily reading.

He's not thinking of doing anything that might upset anyone, he's not plotting to kill anyone, his backpack (with pistol!) is just with him because he grabbed it from habit when he left his room, and he's not even reading up on science right now so that he may turn his intelligence to bad purposes. He's peaceably reading about telecommunications in 2070.

In short, it's a pity something like this happens right when he's doing something that least deserves it. Karma's sense of humour might be uncomfortably similar to Puck's.

For one quite so doomed as he, Le Chiffre still snoozes soundly for some time longer, at least punishing the tricksy Puck to wait, should be remain to watch for much longer.

Inevitably though, he does eventually wake with a slight jolt and a tired squint, rubbing lightly at his eyes and peering around as if somewhat surprised to find himself waking up by the fire. It's only as he slowly pushes himself to sit up that he sets eyes on the only other company he seems to have.

And there's never been a more perfect company to have.

It wouldn't be entirely impossible to notice his eyes light up, watching the young man with a very keen interest before allowing himself a smirk. He's very good at staring. Very good.

Deitmar is almost completely absorbed in his book, except for the part of his brain that's always devoted to keeping track of people around him (largely so his mentor doesn't smack him on the back of the head to illustrate what a dangerous place the world is.)

So he's still missed the rock that the sling of outrageous fortune has let fly. Let's just let him cherish his oblivion for a bit longer, shall we?

Yeah, that's about long enough.

It is, in fact, not very long at all before he glances up on a routine check of movement around him, and then glances over.
