There's someone else occupying the lake, although it shouldn't surprise Zuko too much to see her there. Katara has been alone a lot lately - Jet has been absent and she hasn't tried too hard to seek him out. First he finds out that going home means he'll probably die and then that night with Steph...
She hasn't seen Steph around much lately either - likely for the very same reason.
Katara spends a lot of time training these days, clothed in her wraps as Milliways gets warm, practicing with winding, climbing tendrils of water on the bank of the lake.
Warm; the Scottish highlands would only be warm to the equivalent of the eskimo, wouldn't it? Zuko finds this place cool, but that's what he's seeking after some time in a Greek volcano.
He doesn't stop because he sees her there; that'd be saying she gets the lake and he doesn't. Instead, he strips as if she were nonexistant (even though she very much is and plunges into the water.
If he's swimming in her direction, meandering, it's all in her mind. Really.
It must be. Because Zuko would never be so stupid as to approach her directly.
If the water falters and she glances to him with something akin to guilt, it has absolutely nothing to do with spending a night with his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend that... well, she couldn't completely remember, to be honest.
Katara clears her throat, straightens her form, and forms a pillar of water straight up out of the lake, reaching to the sky.
"Impressive," is all Zuko gives her when he emerges, and paddles back. He keeps his distance, maimed face in something carefully set to neutrality. It's a word, a start. "What do they call that? When you do that one?"
