Bartending

Jun 15, 2007 20:36

Geran's the one writing the specials today from up on his father's shoulders. The little tyke's taken to language like breathing and Garion's the first to encourage him considering his own long wait for literacy. Thus, the specials are a little scrawled, but hopefully the bright blue-eyed smile makes up for it.

Charlie plops onto a stool and smiles at his two favorite Rivan royalty.

"Hey, Geran," he says in a very indulgent, I'm talking to kids kind of way, and adds a hello nod and smile to Garion. "I would like a monkey in a tree, please."

He makes an "ook, ook" face at Geran.

Geran giggles as Garion starts putting the drink together.

"Care to hold him, Charlie?"

"Sure!" He holds out his arms. "I love a little nice'n'chubby baby."

Geran giggles.

"Not a baby anymore!" the little one points out. He's almost six now. Almost. Practically. Totally six.

She wrinkled her brow at the names on the board, with no real comprehension, but she let it go, and flagged down the bar tender once he was free of other patrons with a subtle wave.

"Tea, please."

He gave her a smile, as did Geran, and started preparing the tea.

"Of course, mistress."

"Oh," Marian's countenance, though it had not been dark, brightened exceedingly on spotting the little. "Aren't you just adorable? What is your name?"

"Geran," said the little boy. He was just about six. Almost six. Just about there. Totally six.

Garion ruffled his hair and smiled at her.

"He's five. Now, can you make introductions properly, Geran?"

Geran looked at his father for a moment before nodding his head. Then he bowed his head.

"My name is Geran, mill-lady."

...he tried.
