Mitchell Hundred is at the bar counter.

To all appearances, he's not doing anything all that interesting. He's just sitting with a beer staring at his cellphone.

Sometimes you need intellectual conversation.

Sometimes you need to talk to your cellphone about the most inane things, like people's area codes.

Ray comes up to the Bar nearby. "Third Rail, please," he says politely, and the beer pops into view. "Thanks."

Then he glances sideways.

"Oh, hey. Long time no see."

He almost startled, looking sideways at Ray for a moment before blinking, hard, and muttering something.

Then he offered a smile.

"Ray. Hi."

He shakes off whatever was on before sipping at his drink and nodding to the other man's.

"Take a load off."

The PKE meter was already off, but the holocomputer was on standby mode, along with the cellular phone and a solar-powered LED flashlight on Ray's kechain. Note the use of the word 'was'.

Ray settles down at one of the stools. "Thanks. How've you been?"

"I'm the mayor of New York City."

They didn't actually make an adjective for that one. Also curiously lacking in Hallmark cards.

"You?"

Weird politicians from NY unite?

Well, there was a Nathan glancing at some papers at a table near by. One with his picture in an article, and a headline about the Congress race in the upcoming election.

He noticed the vaguely familiar face staring at a cellphone.

"Could never get a signal myself in here," he commented.

"I'm not really..."

And there's nowhere good this could go.

"Hello, Mister Petrelli," he says with a smile. "How're you doing today?"

"All right I guess." The articles about lagging poll numbers for him in the papers might suggest otherwise.

"How about yourself?"

"Doing just fine," he admits. "Having a bit of conversation with my friend here about what silent mode means."
