"... and when the clock stuck the appointed hour, tolling across the great city, the magic cat and the princess went out into the crowds of townspeople, all dressed in their festivity best with brilliantly colored fabrics and feathers and bells and masks. There, the princess and the cat danced among the people, sharing with each other the clever secret of who they were, that no one else knew."
There is a magic cat, or an Yrael, leaning on the back of Svava and Moira's chair, grinning down at them both.
"And no one else ever discovered that they raided the forgotten treasury- since it was long forgotten, and kept being long forgotten, for a very long time."
"And there it lies, still. A little less full than before, but then again, there is no one there to notice." Yrael reaches down to gently beep touch the tip of Moira's nose for a moment. "But we know better. The princess and the magic cat know better, and every so often, when a gold coin is flipped into the air just right, or they see the way the light plays across rare gems from another world, they smile to themselves at the knowledge of their secret."
Moira's eyes cross, and she babbles at Yrael. Svava chuckles quietly.
"Because, afterall- vikings, pirates and cats are too smart to let something that... useful be forgotten. Particularly when they have easy ways of getting to it."
There's someone sprawled on the couch, listening, but trying not to look like he is, because that story - barring the princess part - sounds disturbingly familiar.
"And so, with treasures safely gotten, the princess and the cat waited until almost midnight. Then, they stepped through the Gate of Death to leave the old palace, to get back to the city in time for the festival. When all the musicians started playing at midnight, no one knew who the princess was, and no one knew who the magic cat was, dancing through the streets. And the princess and cat laughed and enjoyed themselves until dawn, before they opened the Gate of Death to make the long, wet journey home."
Or maybe it is not. It is doubtful that Axel and Yrael went dancing together.
"Thank you. It is, for the most part." She looks back down to Moira.
"Others, I really rather have to... fiddle with, so they're suitable for telling. But that event was rather fun, and without a lot of violence, compared to others."

"Nice story," he comments.
There are only so many stories in the universes, after all. Maybe it's a coincidence?
