There is a doctor Chase in the bar this morning-approaching-afternoon, sitting in a booth by himself with a croissant and a coffee (surprise, surprise) before him. He might look like he's being busy, but in actuality, he's reading the funnies pages. His lab-coat is sitting, folded, next to him

And not far away, nursing a coffee of his own, there is a Starfleet officer studying a datapad.

Another chuckle.

For some reason, today's are especially funny (or maybe he's just in one of those especially good moods).

He picks up his coffee and takes a sip -- doesn't notice the other man yet.

Jim looks over and sees the anachronism of a newspaper, and the man reading it. "What's so funny," Jim asks from simple curiosity.

Chase looks up, momentarily puzzled as he zones back into Reality.

"Oh," he says as a smile appears, "today's funny pages." He holds up the page of comic strips.

There is a translucent red-purple woman leaning, eyes closed, up against the wall of Chase's booth. She hasn't noticed him yet.

What? It looked like a leanable place.

And Chase, in turn, hasn't noticed the red-purple woman either.

Not until he lifts his head to take a sip of his coffee, and then --

"Whoa." Eyes widen, but he doesn't say anything to her yet. This is quite possibly the strangest thing he's seen to date.

Her eyes snap open in surprise when he speaks.

She looks at him--

--and grins. "Hi there! You're hot," she says cheerfully.

His eyebrows go up at the -- uh...compliment. How on earth is a translucent woman possible?

"...Thanks?"
