Hektor had not quite expected the lid of his clothes-press to open into Milliways, but he has no objection to it. It makes things simpler, in truth. The boy peeps into the Bar a moment before wedging a sandal in the door; he trots off out of sight. When he returns, he puts on his sandal before bowing, fist on brow, to the Bar. "This is as I promised," he says, standing on tiptoe to set his toy chariot down on her surface, ivory driver and two carved horses and all. "And this I leave in your keeping for Commander Adama; I hope you will tell him it is from me, since I do not think he reads Greek."

The other thing that he leaves is a wooden figure of Paian Apollo, with inset eyes of lapis and a gilt bow slung over his shoulder. There are even painted arrows in the god's quiver. It vanishes, just as the chariot does, and Hektor bows again. "Thank you, Lady," he says, and scampers off with the full cup that she offers him, to sit by the fire and practice his letters.
