((Before: After Challenger is captured, the Expedition sets out to rescue him and is successful. Kinda. Now all they have to do is find the Manuins' king's bones. Shouldn't be too difficult, right?))

It takes a moment for their eyes to adjust to the change in light. In the end, it's the sudden noise level that has the pair of people that just ( Read more... )

Marguerite throws her hands up in exasperation, "Don't look at me. I didn't get us into this mess."
She tosses her hair and crosses her arms across her chest. This was not her fault at all. For once, he couldn't blame anything on her. He had the map, he said it was the cave (when he obviously couldn't have been sure.) Completely his fault, she thinks with a slight upturn of her lips.

But there is an upside--she can smell the liquor and she is in desperate need of a spot of something strong.

Roxton rolls his eyes. "I wasn't blaming you, Marguerite. Guilty conscious, hmm?" he finishes with a smirk as he looks around. He knows this is the right cave, er, place. The taboo symbol out front matched the Manuins' symbol.

"You think Cassandra would have mentioned that the cave had a pub inside of it."

She wrinkles her nose in his general direction, that cheeky little blighter would do well to remember just who was funding this expedition. She stops just short of pointing that out to him. Men get so testy when one reminds them that they are not supporting one financially. Marguerite smiles a little, thinking on husband number four who was always hopelessly jealous because husband numbers one through three had left her with enough money to control her future.

To the latter remark, she replies, "Why would she comment on something so horribly quotidian?" She flips her hair over her shoulder, exuding overconfidence.

If Roxton doesn't get her out of this mess, she is going to have to kill him.

Roxton gives her a sceptical look. "I hardly think it's quotidian on a plateau in South America," he points out, "especially one with dinosaurs on it."

And he would like to see her try.

"Have a drink?" Kira suggests.

Kira is not, perhaps, the most helpful person one can find.

"That's not a bad idea, miss," Roxton replies, giving the girl a smile. He wonders if this is another orphan of the plateau, like Veronica.

This is the problem with the noblesse. They never have any money and they assume that by condescending to spend time with one, one immediately will fall over oneself to prove for their every comfort.

Marguerite pretends to play shyly with the hem of her jacket. The emerald is snagged on something, making it difficult for her to appear nonchalant. She smiles at Kira.

There it is. Now, she can buy a round of drinks for all three of them. That is, if they recognize the value of a nearly flawless, almost completely blue emerald. What a waste.

Realizing that Roxton is waiting for her to say something, she says, "Drinks on me, I suppose," and looks longingly at the emerald.

"Oh, no, first drink's free," Kira answers quickly. "I mean, if you haven't been here before? Most new people are more confused! Not that it isn't awesome if you're not. You look the adventure-y sort--I love the hat," she adds to Marguerite.
