"Pink," River says to the bar, solemn and earnest. What she gets is, indeed, just that: a drink that looks like some kind of smoothie, smells of several different berries, and is a mildly unnerving shade of bright pink. The spiral straw in it is a complimentary shade of unnerving purple ( Read more... )

A disconcerted Ben Pollard watches the appearance of the bright pink drink, seemingly out of nowhere. A very disconcerted Ben Pollard watches the girl with the pink drink walk towards and past his table. An extremely disconcerted Ben Pollard watches the girl with the pink drink sit under a table in a nearby booth.

"God. I need more vodka," he says aloud.

"Doubt it."

River hasn't looked up.

"You're probably right," Ben concedes, turning his empty glass around in his hands.

"Always am."

That's smug. Someone, perhaps, is in a good mood.

Someone sitting under a booth rather than in it warrants closer inspection, and when it proves to be a familiar someone, Bev hunkers down, smiling.

"Hi, River."

Beat.

River glances up, with a quick smile.

"Bev," she states.

"Hi," Bev says again, and drops down to sit cross-legged on the floor. "How come you're under here?"

"It's very comfortable."

If you're River.

Katara is used to weaving in and out of crowds, in cities and in the bar, so she smiles as she passes the girl with the strange drink.

But she still has to double-take when she sits under the table.

There is a short pause before Katara bends over, peering at her but-- River doesn't look particularly distressed. Maybe she just likes the floor!

Katara smiles.

And hopes the floor's clean.

River does, in fact, just like the floor. And it does look clean! There isn't even gum on the underside of the table. (There is graffiti, though. Carved in crude letters: I MAY BE BORED, BUT YOU'RE REALLY DRUNK.)

"I'm not," River says placidly, without looking up from her drink.

Luckily (unfortunately?) Katara isn't able to read said grafitti. Bar might translate notes and things for her, but anything else tends to be up for grabs.

Which is probably why she blinks, a little startled, and stares at River. "Not...?"

River glances up.

And looks abruptly more confused.

There seems to be someone hanging off the edge of one of the booth's wide seats, legs crossed at the ankles and leaned against the booth's tall back, feet well out of sight above.
Of course, this means that River's near face-to-face with an upside-down Endless.

Desire looks entirely nonplussed.
Desire smells sweeter than that drink in River's hand.

"Nĭ hăo, mĕilì." Desire offers with a sly grin. "What have you got there?"

The Endless's pale fingers may be tracing the ridges of existing graffiti beneath the table.

"It's very pink."

River is Captain Obvious today.

Unnatural drink colors! Carmela approves.

After a moment, a thick, dark braid descends past the table's edge, followed a moment later by Carmela's intrigued face.

"Sumimasen -- does that drink have a name?"

"It's pink."

...Try asking Bar.

i_grenfelz March 10 2007, 07:19:23 UTC
"Clearly!"

She tilts her head -- which looks a little odd, since she's already kind of sideways.

"Or is that its name? 'Cause if I just order a pink drink, Bar'll probably give me that totally processed fizzy stuff again. And that looks even tastier."

Seriously, "I haven't asked it."
