There's a man not all that far away, in a chair by the fireplace.

He, in turn, is drinking a cup of coffee and studying a datapad-- although when he glances up and takes note of the boy, he nods a cordial greeting.

"Good-evening." It's a little stiff, but mostly proper, as Colin looks back at him with curious grey eyes.

Colin has a milkshake.

...Colin may have a bit of an over-fondness for such things.

"Nĭ hăo," Gabriel says-- even as he takes note of the milkshake.

"I'm not disturbing you, I trust?"

"No." He pauses, and corrects, "You are, but I do not mind being disturbed. I should not come here if I did."

"Good evening, Colin."

Mary looks rather . . . suspiciously cheerful, really.

...Yes.

Yes, she does.

"Good evening, Mary."

There may be eyeing.

Mary cranes her neck to look over at his book.

"What is it that you are reading? Is it one of yours or one from the bar?"

If it's one of Colin's she's probably at least skimmed it already.

"It is from the bar. Father does not think," matter-of-factly, "I am old enough for books on the Customs of other sorts of peoples."

It is about Indians. Colin thought it was a good place to start.

There's a young man not too far away who is attempting to not stare too much at the invasion of puppets. (He hasn't yet realized they're transformed patrons, rather than an influx of animated toys.) Which is almost the same as studying the room intently!

At any rate, he happens to catch Colin's eye after a while, and nods at him with a faint cordial smile.

Colin does not see how puppets are any stranger than anything else in the bar.

"Good evening." Very polite, over the top of his book.

Colin has a point.

"Good evening," Edmund answers.

"How do you do?"

Colin feels he often does.

Colin also considers before answering, "Well enough." There is a book. There is a milkshake.

It could be worse.

"And you?"
