Bartending

Jan 19, 2007 19:31

Garion's almost distracted as he puts the specials up this time. It's almost like he's not entirely there, like his mind is someplace else, some other world or some other concern... but he's here, which means he wants to be there. He's too practical to waste time and he'll never consider bartending a waste of time. Never ( Read more... )

Well, that thing certainly isn't Magic. Magic doesn't eat people, she eats peoples' dinners. The distinction is important. Speaking of eating peoples' dinners, she's still waiting for mum to order so that she can beg for tidbits.

Mum being the smallish pyro who suddenly looks a bit wary upon discovering the Bar is not unmanned.

"Brilliant." Says she, and Magic slowly chases the bowls across the floor, licking them clean, "Then we won't have a problem."

It's all very simple to her. A lack of the crazy sword-swinging means better relations all 'round.

"Good," he says.

""Take care with the bowls that they don't become lost, little sister?""

Then he holds out a hand.

"Shake on it?"

Ace blinks at the hand, then at him.

Her expression very plainly says 'you are a weird, weird, weird person'.

"Just so I'm clear... we're shakin' on us not havin' a problem if you don't threaten t'kill me with a very big sword?"

Not that it matters whether or not he sticks her with a sword, now.

Magic's tail wags at Garion's voice, but other than that, she pays no mind. She's busy licking bowls.

"We're shaking on a fresh start... that doesn't include anyone having any swords shook in their face."

Unless she cropped up with a case of Arendishness... which would warrant such a thing. It's unlikely, though. Unless, say, Lelldorin showed up in the bar.

Ace still considers him to be a Very Weird Person.

But, maybe this will lead to less swords. Life is always better with less swords.

So she takes his hand, which can pretty much engulf hers. She is a very shortish pyro, after all.

And he shakes it with, perhaps, surprising care. After all, his wife is smaller than just about any other woman in the bar you'd care to name.

"Good," he says, sounding considerably more pleased about it. "I never could sit easy the way it was."

Ace very studiously does not comment about how there wouldn't be any problem if he didn't go around waving swords at people.

Behaving.

She should get a medal.

She drinks her hot rum instead.

"Mmm, s'not bad." She says, approvingly. When in doubt, praise the alcohol.

"It's cold enough," he admits, "out there. And at home."

He scratches his ear.

"Home is cold almost all the time, really."

He looks curiously at Ace. It's a strange thing to have that sort of... 'someone thinks I'm crazy because I apparently waved a sword in her face and it's dificult because she'd friends with a few of my friends and what do you do about that, really?' thing going on and know nothing about the other person.

"What about you?"

Ace grins, wryly (or is that grimaces?) and takes another sip of the rum.
"I have no home. 'Less y'count here. S'where m'family's at, such as it is."

"Mine is..." he scratches his ear again. It's a nervous habit.

Or the side effect of spending so much time as a wolf. Hard to say.

"Well, the wife and children are here, but most of my family is spread out at home. I don't have much, so it's surprising."

Ace tilts her head.

"Surprisin' they'd spread out 'cause there's so few, or surprisin' how far they spread out, considerin' the numbers?" There's a difference. At least in her head.

"Surprised they're so spread out, considering the numbers," he admits. "Aunt Pol and Durnik and the twins are in the Vale, Grandfather and Grandmother are... all over, it seems. My cousin Adara's trying to outdo the new nation of Maragor with new children in Algar..."

And he doesn't even know where Beldin and Vella might be.

Ace blinks politely at all the names of people and places.

People and places with no mental map to put them on.

Yeeup.

"Y'don't say?"

Behaving.

He realizes that a moment later.

"They're pretty spread out."

He smooths his hand in the air over the bar counter, a map appearing just below his hand already spread out. It's of his world.

"Riva."

He points to the little island.

"The Vale."

To the Vale.

"Algaria."

Algaria.

"Hmm. Well. At least theres less of a chance on gettin' on each other's nerves?" She offers.

Ace doesn't really know how big families work.
