It's not long before a blonde woman appears at the table, with a soda, and a basket of potato chips, along with a glass of iced tea. "Looks like you're working hard." She puts the chips and soda beside his notebook. "Mightn't be exactly what you like, but, well, Ender always had a thing for chips when he was trying to write."

Val's mostly unexpected. It's part of her nature. And she takes care of people. "Work's anything that you're doing, whether you have to or not, that creates something." She shrugs. "At least that's what Peter said once. Take that as you will."
