When Valerie approaches the Bar today, she asks for something to read (she left the surprising book she got for Christmas upstairs, and doesn't feel like heading back up just yet).

Clarice, currently busy with undoing her scarf and sticking her gloves in her coat pocket, arches her eyebrows.

"Soliloquizing?" she repeats. "Should I stand back?"
