If one is looking for a bartending job, this is not the red-haired man in black to go to.

It is not like this one is truly easy to find. Unless one is looking for him, that is. He is in the bar room, tonight, in that corner booth that is never lit well enough to make it past shadowy and into merely dimHe blends into the shadows a little too ( Read more... )

One must, of course, know what to look for.

A certain (darkening) lady passes nearby, and stops to pay her respects.

She smiles, and dips her head."Good morrow, Aphelise. How goes it with you?"

He sees her, but does not rise. Hardly moves. "With progress. We will take our leave of this bar a week from tonight. At Midwinter."

The line of her neck straightens a little. Perhaps her breath hitches. "That is passing well. Have you then spoken with the man who brings us through?"

Uninvited, she joins him in the booth.

"I have. The man is an easily-played fool. He believes that we are two people, both bound here, who have fallen in love, and thinks this 'visit' to a world beyond the bar to be my Christmas gift to you." The Black Rider, for there is little of 'Aphelise' in him now, speaks with very little inflection. His blue eyes are flat, with no light to them.

"You must act the part." Or you will be left behind.

There's someone else in a different corner, by the fire, watching the room with bright and cold blue eyes.

If he blends into the background a little too well too, it's partly for his stillness and partly for the cloak thrown back over his shoulders, which shifts subtly and dizzyingly between shades of grey and green and brown.

Lan watches the lighted areas, and he watches the shadows.

Neither of them would be able to call themselves observant if they did not notice the other. The ones who watch others are the ones who should probably be watched, after all.

It would only be a matter of time before one of them caught the other's blue gaze.

Lan knows of this man.

Well. 'Man.'

Knows rather a lot about him, in fact; what he doesn't know is if he's been marked in turn. He can't afford to assume otherwise.

He doesn't nod to the other, or say a word; only meets his ice-blue gaze for a moment and, casually, turns his eyes back to the bar.

There would be no point in having a called-out conversation across the bar room, from one corner to another. So the Rider merely continues to mark the man seemingly carved of stone, even as other people come to converse with him.

Wow, it's dark over here.

Philippus, at the next table, pulls the shade off her lamp so she can read her menu. Hmmm. What does she care to try tonight?

He does not blink.

"Good evening," he says to the lady nearby.

She'll have the light conversation!

"Good evening." She glances up, offering a smile. Then she glances back at her menu, frowning a little, and looks up a little more slowly.

[OOC: mun is trying to think if an Amazon, an immortal with firm belief in her goddesses, would pick up on powerful malign influence? Canon hints either way, with them not recognising Ares and his mocking 'em for it, so your call. Y/N?]

(ooc: Well, there isn't much of him left that isn't malice and the urge to cause pain and destruction... Either way is fine with me.)

His blue eyes fail to reflect the light. "Newcomer to Milliways, are you?"

He asks* Hiding from something?

"What about you?" One side of his mouth quirks up in something that might be the first cousin to a smile. First cousin by marriage.
