Victorian era stage magician standing near the bar looking a little glum. He's missing his family and on his fourth cup of tea.

He's stirring his tea with one hand and fanning a deck of cards with the other.

"Possibly both." He tries to smile, but it's not terribly convincing.

"Magician most days. During the leaner months, it's a gamble."

"I can see that."

No, it's really not convincing at all.

"Everything okay?"

A slight nod. "Yes. Fine. A little homesick perhaps, but I can manage, thank you."

"Happy St. Nicholas' Day," he offers as he places the little bag of red and green on the counter besides the tea. The smell of warm cookies is unmistakable.

"Well, you don't have to now," he admits. "But... I don't suppose a few cookies will upset you further?"

"No, they won't."

A mild frown of confusion crosses his face.

"Should a pick a card?" asks the blonde with a coffee mug a few barstools over.

He grins, though it's still tinged with a little sadness.

"You may, if you like."

He holds out the fanned cards, backs facing himself.

She grabs the first card her eyes settle on--the queen of spades.

"What next?"

She might notice his face brighten a little - performing always seems to lighten his mood.

He closes the fan of cards, stacks the deck neatly and presents it to her.

"Place your card in the deck - anywhere you like."
