Evey is...

Not as pleased, perhaps, with her new situation as she might have been.

Considering the alternative.

But it is as it is, and he's no guilt for what's done to keep her alive.
Never guilt for anything needed for that. And alive, too.
That does not mean that part of V is not pleased at the distraction provided when he steps into the bar

*Well.

It's a little hard not to notice the masked man in a - Pilgrim hat? - walking through the bar.*

I like the hat, *Meg volunteers. She transparently really does, too.*

The--well.

His voice smiles at her as he replies, "Merci, mademoiselle," in a carefully Parisian accent.

*Meg's eyes brighten - at the French and the careful accent, both.*

Oh magnifique, vous parlez francais, monsieur? C'est bien rare ici - tout le monde parlent anglais, c'est vraiment tragique - not that English isn't a perfectly good language, *she adds, switching back,* but it's just not the same as your native one, vous savez.

"Oui, je sais. Mais c'est une belle langue."

Rachel tended to smile when ever certain types walked through the door. Mask and cape? That got V classified as a Hero type, and so, how could she not approve?

So the smile, and the respectful nod from the spandexed girl at a table sipping broth.

He would be honored to be considered so.

He would not, necessarily, agree.

But he does bow in Rachel's direction, mask always smiling.

It would take convincing on his part to disavow her of the notion. She had very strange ideas sometimes after all.

There was nothing but simple curiosity in her glance though, and a gesture to a free chair nearby. An invitation.

And all things are a matter of opinion.

However, V is always, at the very least, polite, and as such he's pleased to sit in the free chair.

There is an Ace, of course - there almost always is, somewhere. Tonight she's being quiet, with a mug of cocoa, an overstuffed armchair by the fire, a snoozing doberman at her feet, and a good book.

'The Scarlet Pimpernel'.

He wasn't afraid of the dark.

No, he was not.

"How are you enjoying the book?"

"Lady Blakeney still hasn't figured it out. Clearly he didn't marry her for the intelligent conversation." Ace replies, looking up from her book, and since her cocoa is safely on the side table, perhaps the slight start his sudden voice causes might go unnoticed.

Someday (soon) that'll stop.

She's already decided that.

Probably as soon as she stops feeling the need to check on the walls every few minutes.

Perhaps it goes unnoticed.

Perhaps not.

"Men marry for many reasons," he says mildly and may, in fact, agree with her assessment.

"The bonfire went off well?"
