There should have been a paranormal incident today in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Something involving demonically possessed toilets. Instead, four students from Stevens Institute of Technology Hoboken were arrested for trespassing-related charges at the insistence of the management of the biggest Holiday Inn in the county ( Read more... )

There is a man with a little green baby in one arm, a plate of his own pie in front of him, a cup of tea, and a book on advanced accounting.

The baby gets a brief, curious look. The pie probably gets more of Ray's attention. What? It's a perfectly normal baby apart from the part where it's green.

Seriously, though, what gets the most of Ray's attention is the book. "Recreational reading, or studying up for a profession?" he asks.

"Trying not to be completely useless," he answers without looking up. The baby, on the other hand, gives him a veritable examination with those black black eyes of hers.

As per usual, she's unimpressed.

"Also, it makes sense to me and someone has to do it. Good reason for most things."

Babies are seldom impressed with Ray. They think he's an overgrown kid, not a grown-up.

"True enough. I hear it pays pretty well, if you're good at it."

Ray has an odd kind of respect for Louis Tully. Some things you just can't expect a man to do on his own. Accounting's one of them.

There was a baby peering at him, and waving. Also gumming and drooling over a teething ring. Peter was currently writing something nearby.

"Hi, Maria," Ray said with a grin. "Taking good care of your daddy?"

Maria just gurgled around the teething ring happily.

Peter glanced up, "Evening, Ray."

Ray waves. "Hey, Peter. How's it going? Working on the book?"

Blitzball off his head!

"Sorry!"

Not his fault! Not his fault!

There was a tiny fiend (Hiss) hopping through and he forgot that what goes up has to come down in his haste to back away. (Normally, the tiny fiend would be dispatched, but he's not sure if the fiends get protection in bar same as other patrons and really doesn't want to miss the game.)

Boing!

There's some momentary flailing in the tipping chair before Ray manages to right himself. "It's okay," he says, blinking and looking around for the source. "What the- where'd it go?"

his_fathers_sin November 16 2006, 05:46:04 UTC
"Got it," he's assured.

The ball actually landed on a table about six feet away (and made a waitrat yelp) and is quickly picked up by Tidus before he turns and grins at Ray. A bit sheepishly.

"Er. Sorry, again."

"Oh, it's okay. No harm, no foul." Ray smiles. "Indoor sports, or just an accident?"

And to make it all that much worse, someone is laughing at him.

Or perhaps she is just laughing.

"Ray, have you seen this?" Romana has discovered the joy that is silly putty. Clearly she was deprived as a child.

Ray glances over at the sound of Romana's voice and grins. "Oh, hey, silly putty? I haven't played with that stuff in ages. That's great stuff. Where'd you get it?"

He scootches his chair over in her direction.

"It came with my supper tonight - I'm not entirely sure why, but it has proven to be immensely entertaining." She confides, stretching the pale pink stuff between her fingers, making little putty snakes.

Since he's going to be all conviniently close, perhaps leaning on him can be forgiven.

As far as Ray's concerned, Romana leaning on him can always be forgiven.

"Have you seen what it can do with newspaper pictures yet?" Ray says. "If you press it flat on the right kind of paper, one that's printed with an ink that's not too colorfast, you can lift a copy of whatever's on the paper off on the surface of the putty."

Ingress walks by. Mmmm, pie. She pauses, glancing at the pie, and waves.

"Hi."

Ray looks up and smiles. "Hey there," he answers, waving a little. "How's it going?"

"It's going fine! What kind of pie are you eating?"

Ingress will be asking Bar for a slice pretty soon.

"Oh, it's just apple," Ray says. "Nothing fancy. IT's the kind of pie you could probably get away with eating for breakfast if you really tried."
