He should have departed for the expedition into the caves under Wenley Moor yesterday, but the Brigadier has yet to learn about the slightly off-set chronal properties of some of the side portions of the Bar. Last time it was the men's room. This time, he took a wrong turn when he was looking for a spot where he could safely check his equipment

He stops, several yards short of the door.

"Another one of you," he says levelly. "This is your one warning. Get out of my way."

How does he know this snake wasn't just passing by, huh? And it happens not to take well to threats?

Too late now! The snake raises its head and hisses.

If it wanted understanding and an attempt at interspecies cooperation it should've wandered past the bloody Doctor, shouldn't it. This is a man for whom the phrase 'hold your fire' means 'pick up that flaming stick'.

The Brigadier's eyes narrow. One hand starts to reach for his gun.
