And there is a stick.

Normally these are mostly white, red for about a foot at the tip. That's true here. Normally they're also quite long, which is the case for this one as well. Generally, however, they're supposed to be quite slender; this one... well, it's about as thick as a pool cue. And it just whacked John Preston in one of the calves.

"Whoa! Sorry, buddy," says the rumpled-looking fellow who's not looking in anything like the right location for eye contact.
