Earlier today, an offer was made and accepted.

So today, when the chimes sound, the clock isn't on 4 as expected.

It's actually not on an hour mark at all, but hovering somewhere just before the 3.

Close enough for three chimes, anyway.

And close enough that the tremor today feels as strong as the one yesterday to anyone without highly ( Read more... )

Upstairs, the arrival of said tremor does not go down particularly well with Shufti and Jack.

About fifteen minutes later Guppy comes downstairs to glance around for casualties, before he disappears back up to bed.

Ray was over at one of the tables going over his numbers with a glass of the green stuff. The shake catches his attention, though- you'd better believe it!- and for one instant he wishes he had a seismograph on hand. Then he's busy grabbing his glass and making sure nothing else goes flying.

As soon as the tremor passes Ray's out of his seat again, PKE meter in hand, headed for the clock.

The quake done, the meter reads significantly lower this time. Still high, but not off-the-scale high.

Although it does start slowly creeping higher.

"Huh," Ray says to no one in particular, scratching at his chin. He looks up at the dial- yeah, that's not the time it would have been reading before, is it?

No, not if he's gauging its speed properly... hm.

"Did anyone touch this thing, or do anything to this thing, at any point in the past sixty minutes or so?" he asks of anyone who might be in the vicinity.

Nerdanel had met him when she first arrived with Sooty, so she feels all right speaking up from her seat where she's feeding a baby.

"A tall man with a small blonde child were standing there a little before the shaking," she says quietly. "They were talking, then there was a spark of some kind that struck her. She began to cry about something not being right and he swept her out the door..."

Giles had stopped in the bar, taking a brief break from research. Mostly to study the clock some more.

So he noticed the significance of the chimes. Tremors were the same though.

Curious it was about 3 still. What changed?

He peered at it to get a closer look.

"'s a fucking ugly clock."

The vampire next to him is glaring at it sharply.

"Wish it would leave."

"I'm more concerned about its power, than its appearance."

Giles glanced back toward her, "Do you know of anything of it? Or why it seems to have turned back briefly?"

"Can't say as I do."

She shrugs, then holds out a cold hand.

"Mal."

Molly and Cain are by the lake when they hear the chimes. They give each other a puzzled look when they hear only three of the expected four, and are relieved when the quake isn't any worse than it was yesterday.

They squeeze each other's hands, and continue their walk in silence.

Jack is dozing in the infirmary when the shaking comes, just as he was when it came yesterday. Today, though, it jolts him awake and he has his hand on the side of the bed, ready to roll underneath for cover, when he realizes that this is Milliways, not Los Angeles. Milliways doesn't have earthquakes, except...

Except when something strange is happening.

The vibration stops, and he lies there, tense and waiting for another one, a stronger one. When it doesn't come, though, he eventually settles into a restless sleep.
