Armageddeon: Day Two

Aug 19, 2006 17:53

Twenty-four hours have passed since the strange clock appeared beside the back door.

In that time, the single hand of the clock has slowly moved from the 1 to the 2.

When it reaches that second number, it chimes twice, softly. And no matter where in the bar or bar grounds you are right now, you'll hear it, just as softly.

Ting. Ting.Then comes ( Read more... )

Out on the grounds, Molly hears a light chime. Twice.

She pauses in her work and wipes her brow as she looks around for the source, but sees nothing out of the ordinary.

Odd.

She goes back to work with a shrug.

Snowball's keen ears pick up the chimes clearly, and this time he feels the tremor.

He puts down his bag of grass seed for the moment. He'd been attempting to repair the lawn for most of the day.

"Excuse me comrade Molly. Did you... hear and feel that?"

Molly frowns at Snowball. "I thought maybe I'd just imagined the sound. Like a bell? But I didn't feel anything at all."

She looks around, but there is nothing to see or hear that isn't normal now.

"What do you think it was?"

Snowball shrugs.

"I'm afraid I'm not aware of the geology of this area. Apart from the chiming, if we were at home I would say it was a tectonic plate movement having created a high friction area and displacing land suddenly."

From outside, where he is working to repair damage, Magius looks up. He closes his eyes and sighs.

"This could be very bad...."

Cain has finished excercising and is on his way in when it happens. The chime draws his attention as he steps in. The quake, in it's wake, makes him stare, his face grim.

"Damn you, whoever you are..."

Shufti looks at Jack's bottle as the milk trembles. She frowns and puts one hand on the floor, but by this time the tremor is gone.

Jack doesn't notice anything. He continues to feed whilst his mother looks around, frowning slightly.

When it's part of your biological makeup to be aware when a shift in your gravity centre is required to maintain balance, you notice tremors.

In fact, Sikozu stumbles just a little, caught unawares and distracted by the soft noise of the clock, unable to compensate quickly enough, despite it being a rather slight shift.

Firmly centred now, she approaches the clock cautiously.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

Just a clock.

Nothing to see here.

Sikozu doesn't buy it!

Unfortuantely, it's just a feeling. Instinct.

The clock is frowned at.

"-- you okay?" asks Greg curiously.

He has coffee on his shirt.
