There's no fire burning in the fireplace at the moment, but there's enough light to see by nonetheless. So Merriman has claimed an armchair near to the fireplace and placed a tea set on a low table beside it ( Read more... )

Merlion.

Darning socks.

Morgan is attempting not to giggle.

He wears socks like normal people. Why shouldn't he darn them?

He examines the work he's done so far, and catches sight of Morgan watching him.

One eyebrow goes up, a fraction of an inch.

If her arms weren't full of baby, she'd wave. As it is, she grins at him.

Decidedly impishly, really.

And he nods to her -- to both of them, really -- before rolling up his work and leaning back in his chair a little. 'How goes it?'

He may not have a book, but there is a woman with rainbow wings sitting on one of the couches nearby, working her way through a couple of stacks of books she has sitting next to her.

She looks up at him during her reading and smiles. "Hello."

He glances up, and gives her a cordial nod and smile in return. 'Good evening.'

His gaze takes in her books, then returns to her. 'For business, or pleasure?'

"Both. I'm planning a couple of trips, and wanted to do some research."

She holds up the book she's currently reading, which happens to be a book on sushi.

'Sushi, is it?' He sets his work on his lap. 'I recommend both the fatty tuna and the sweet egg cake varieties; they are quite good, from what I recall, though it has been some time since last I had some. Any particular reason for travelling to Japan -- for that is, I might assume, your destination?'

"Hullo, Professor Lyon," says Tom, stopping by the armchair. He looks a great deal better than last Merriman saw him.

Merriman looks up, and sets his work aside. 'Ah, Mr Riddle. How goes it with you and yours?'

A quick glance up and down gives him part of the answer, but he'd rather hear the rest from the source.

"It goes remarkably well, actually. It's a wonder what the passage of time does for one." He sits on the couch opposite from Merriman. There's something subtly different in the way he carries himself. He's still Tom Riddle, but he's also a little bit more.

Merriman is quite observant -- it rather comes with the territory. And so the slight change to Tom's posture does not go unnoticed. He seems more himself, and more comfortable within himself, as if he had gone from a suit purchased off a shop rack to a suit tailor-made to his own specifications.

'I should imagine so,' he says, with a slightly wider smile. 'And what, to coin a phrase, has the passage of time wrought for you of late?'

So. Wellard is rather caught between the feeling of accomplishment and... hoping the Commodore is not too upset over some recent events.

But accomplishment, as well as some concern, and a chance to see the Commodore (even if perhaps he is not too happy with those recent events) win out- thus, Merriman soon has an approaching Wellard.

"Good evening, Commodore."

Upset? No. Attempting to come to terms with the entire incident? Well, yes. But there is an undeniable touch of relief in Merriman's gaze when he looks up and sees Wellard approaching.

'Good evening, Mister Wellard,' he says, letting his work drop for the moment. 'Do I take it that you've all returned from your...excursion, as it were?'

"Just yesterday, sir." He nods, sitting down. "All of us, safe and sound and in one piece, actually. After we left the Pridewin we headed back to Tortuga in the West Indies."

"Our trip was near done, then."

Attempting to figure out distances and times will have to come later. Right now, there are a few questions on Merriman's mind that Wellard will hopefully be able to answer.

'All of you?' he asks. 'Including Captain Sparrow?'

Kaylee was doing some baking, yesterday.

A little more was not difficult.

There is, therefore, a covered plate next to the tea set...and Kaylee looking a little amused. "Wei, professor."

'Good evening, Kaylee,' he replies -- and then glances over at the covered plate, before looking back to her with a little amusement of his own. 'Is my education in the mysterious ways of chocolate about to commence, then?'

"You got it," she says, cheerfully. "Muffins. Only they're more cupcakes. Since I was makin' River's birthday cake and I kind of got carried away."

'Well then,' he says, with a gesture to the tray and its contents, including an empty cup and saucer, 'will you be good enough to stay a while and partake of them with me?'

One hand goes to the teapot. Still piping hot, still plenty of tea within it.
